About The Position

We are seeking a skilled Painting Estimator to prepare accurate and competitive estimates for commercial and industrial painting projects throughout Southern California. This role is responsible for analyzing drawings, specifications, and project requirements to develop detailed takeoffs, labor projections, material lists, and complete bid proposals. The ideal candidate brings hands-on knowledge of commercial painting systems, coatings, and field conditions, combined with strong organizational and analytical abilities to manage multiple bids effectively.

Requirements

  • Minimum 3 years of estimating experience in commercial or industrial painting (preferred)
  • Strong understanding of painting systems, coatings, surface preparation, and application methods
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, architectural drawings, and specifications
  • Proficiency in estimating software or Excel-based estimating tools
  • Strong mathematical, analytical, and organizational skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to manage multiple bids and deadlines simultaneously
  • Valid driver’s license for job walks and site visits

Responsibilities

  • Review project plans, drawings, specifications, and scopes of work
  • Perform detailed quantity takeoffs including surface areas, substrates, materials, and labor
  • Develop accurate cost estimates for labor, materials, equipment, and subcontractors
  • Identify project-specific risks, constraints, and required clarifications
  • Prepare comprehensive bid proposals and participate in bid reviews
  • Collaborate with project managers, superintendents, and field personnel prior to finalizing bids
  • Assist with pre-construction planning and smooth handoff of awarded projects
  • Coordinate with vendors and suppliers for updated pricing and material availability
  • Communicate with general contractors, owners, and architects as required
  • Attend job walks, site visits, and pre-bid meetings
  • Maintain strong working relationships with vendors and material suppliers
  • Stay current on coatings, finishes, equipment, and application methods
  • Maintain organized records of estimates, historical pricing, and project documentation
  • Utilize estimating software, spreadsheets, and digital tools to improve workflow efficiency
