The Role The Paint Shop Process Specialist is responsible for leading paint process controls and paint process validation activities for new product launches, major equipment installations, and ongoing plant support. This role blends controls engineering with hands-on paint process and application expertise to ensure equipment capability, product quality, and successful program execution. This position supports both centralized Manufacturing Engineering and plant operations, requiring strong collaboration, independent decision-making, and the ability to manage multiple technical projects concurrently.

Requirements

  • 3+ years of experience specifying, commissioning, or operating paint shop equipment, controls systems, and/or paint robot programming.
  • Knowledge of FANUC Software - Paint Pro, Handling Pro, PaintWorks and PaintTool
  • Working knowledge of PT/ED, sealing, primer, and topcoat processes.
  • Experience with programming automation cells and robotics.
  • Ability to diagnose process issues and identify root causes of equipment failures.
  • Strong project management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills with the ability to work independently and collaboratively.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.

Responsibilities

  • Lead Paint Process robot and control validation activities for new programs and major equipment replacements.
  • Programming and validation of robotic paint and sealer paths for appearance, material efficiency, and cycle time.
  • Troubleshoot plant paint shop processes including PT/ED, sealing, primer, and topcoat, engaging cross-functional teams to drive root cause identification.
  • Serve as a technical lead for issue resolution, data collection, “one voice” communication, and practical problem-solving activities.
  • Use the Tech Center Paint Lab to develop and test robotic paths, validate application performance, and support pre-launch readiness.
  • Provide technical direction to suppliers, integrators, and plant personnel.
  • Manage timing, deliverables, and project reporting for leadership and program teams.
  • Support continuous improvement of paint processes, equipment reliability, and system capability.
  • Travel as required (typically 25-75%)
