To assure surfaces of aircraft are smooth and prepared for primer and finish paint application; apply finishes to a variety of parts, assemblies and/or completed aircraft. This role involves learning the correct procedures to apply prime and finish coat to aircraft. The technician will work in accordance with general safety procedures, maintain protective safety equipment, and perform surface preparation tasks such as marking, mixing, and applying filler. The position requires visually checking surfaces for discrepancies and learning to perform complicated rework. The role involves using conventional air and HVLP spray painting equipment, and familiarity with airless spray-painting equipment, along with simple hand tools and measuring equipment. Responsibilities include spraying primer, paint filler, and protective paint on prepared surfaces, preparing plastic, fiberglass, or composite parts, and performing minor rework, touchup, priming, and finish painting. Additional duties may include stripping aircraft or aircraft parts using chemical removers, roughing and finishing surfaces with sandpaper, applying alodine, washing aircraft, or sealing components. The technician will work from oral and written instructions and established procedures, maintaining quality of their own work, and will receive general supervision and on-the-job training to develop problem-solving skills and identify improvements.
