Description This position is responsible for packaging design, material selection and documentation to ensure Andersen products are delivered safely and in good condition to the final customer. This role will require strong technical capabilities, project management and cross-functional team building skills by working closely with our product design, sourcing, operations and logistics partners. Projects for this role will include leadership and support of new product launches, cost savings opportunities, quality improvements, safety improvements along with sustainable and innovative packaging designs. This role is an enterprise role that will work with all plants across the Andersen network. The level of this position will depend upon qualifications. (Travel 5-15%)

Requirements

  • BS in Mechanical/ Industrial/ Materials Science/ Packaging or similar Engineering discipline (ABET accredited program preferred)
  • 5 - 10 years engineering or technical experience working on product design, packaging, materials development and testing
  • Experienced with 2D & 3D CAD modeling
  • Excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
  • Project management experience and experience working with cross-functional teams
  • Strong working knowledge of product and packaging development principles
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills. Demonstrated ability to build relationships and make presentations to all levels of the organization.
  • Quick learner with a high level of ambition and collaboration
  • Strong mechanical aptitude
  • Strong aptitude in process improvement, problem solving, and project management
  • Strong understanding of relevant methodologies and tools (e.g. SPC, ERP, MDMAIC)
  • Strong knowledge of lean, manufacturing, business, and quality systems
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook) as well as statistical software (Minitab, JMP, etc.)

  • Demonstrated predictive design skills through modeling, FEA and other advanced testing techniques

Responsibilities

  • Use science and engineering principles to understand packaging components and develop system level solutions
  • Develop advanced testing protocols utilizing data acquisition tools and software to replicate the product distribution environment to enable faster cycles of learning and more robust packaging designs
  • Design, model, test, optimize and document packaging solutions
  • Lead packaging technology projects through a phase-gate review process demonstrating technical feasibility and making recommendations to stakeholders and technical leaders as to viability of solutions to meet business needs
  • Develop new innovative and sustainable packaging designs
  • Work closely with product design, sourcing, operations and logistics partners to deliver cost-effective solutions that protect the product, deliver manufacturing ready processes and enable efficient delivery
  • Assist with implementation of new designs and processes in a manufacturing environment
  • Drive improvement efforts through a solid understanding and application of modeling and statistical tools for effective solutions (ie., FEA, DOE, Process Mapping, Pugh matrix, FMEA, THA etc.)
  • Work closely with suppliers to enable new solutions and understand industry trends
  • Stay abreast of industry technology developments and explore their use in Andersen products
  • Gather and translate voice of customer (internal and external) feedback into packaging requirements
  • Help define, drive and implement packaging strategies.
  • Create 3D concepts of packaging solutions using Autodesk Inventor to present to internal customers.
