TekniPlex is hiring a Development Engineer to join the Innovation R&D Group at our Global Innovation Center in Holland, Ohio. The candidate will lead breakthrough packaging platform initiatives and support R&D projects that drive growth for the Consumer Products Business at TekniPlex. This role works closely with corporate and business unit R&D teams, procurement, raw material and equipment suppliers, internal and external development partners, and a broad range of strategic customers. The position reports to the Director of Global Innovation. It is an on‑site position that requires hands‑on work.

Requirements

  • Minimum: BS degree in Chemistry, Polymer Science, Chemical Engineering or a related discipline; 5-10 years of related product development experience in the packaging industries.
  • Strong knowledge of materials science, with emphasis on polymer chemistry, additives, sustainable materials etc.

Nice To Haves

  • Desired: MS or Ph.D. in Chemistry, Polymer Science, Chemical Engineering or a related discipline with 5 years of product development experience in consumer packaging.

Responsibilities

  • Designs and develops new materials and process technologies in the consumer packaging segment to meet our customers’ needs for product protection, safety, and sustainability.
  • Provides substantial advanced technical expertise and has prime responsibility for outlining, planning, directing, researching, and completing various innovation and R&D projects.
  • Conducts laboratory materials analysis and product performance testing, and interprets results to guide development decisions.
  • Prepares clear written, verbal, and technical presentations and communicates effectively with technical, management, marketing, and sales teams.
  • Serves as the technology transfer liaison for assigned projects and technology platforms.
  • Monitors emerging material and process technologies and recommends opportunities for partnership or integration within the consumer packaging division.
  • Coordinates with Procurement and Legal teams when engaging with third‑party material, process, and technology partners.
  • Contributes to the development of intellectual property strategies to protect new material, process, and product innovations.
  • Supports business units in resolving technical, manufacturing, product, and customer-related challenges.
  • Performs additional duties as assigned by the Supervisor.
