About The Position

We are seeking a dynamic and experienced Small Business Risk Manager to lead our SBRM team and drive strategic initiatives that help small business customers manage risks. The Small Business Risk Manager will establish the strategy and vision for the SBRM function while providing overall leadership and direction to the team. This role involves spearheading complex initiatives, developing innovative solutions, ensuring alignment with enterprise and department strategic objectives, and fostering strong internal and external partnerships. The successful candidate will also represent State Farm in various external forums, contributing to industry-wide risk management and mitigation efforts.

Requirements

  • Proven leadership experience in risk management, P&C Underwriting, or related fields.
  • Strong strategic thinking and project management skills.
  • Excellent communication and relationship-building abilities.
  • Advanced expertise in Property & Casualty underwriting principles, risk assessment, and program development, with a deep understanding of small business risk profiles and market dynamics.
  • Ability to influence and collaborate across multiple levels of an organization.
  • Demonstrated experience making informed recommendations and decisions on Property & Casualty (P&C) underwriting programs and initiatives with enterprise-wide implications.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience representing an organization in external industry forums or committees is a plus.
  • CPCU (Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter) ARM (Associate in Risk Management), CRM (Certified Risk Manager) or similar designation preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Establish and prioritize the strategy and vision for the Small Business Risk Management team, aligning with organizational goals.
  • Lead and inspire the SBRM team, providing oversight on policies, philosophies, and procedures.
  • Lead and prioritize complex initiatives, reallocating resources as needed to focus on department and organizational priorities and achieve results.
  • Develop, implement, and monitor department and team goals in alignment with enterprise strategic objectives.
  • Assist senior leadership in defining and communicating long-term department strategies and desired business outcomes.
  • Make informed recommendations and decisions on Business Markets programs and initiatives with enterprise-wide implications.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert, providing specialized knowledge in Risk Management disciplines.
  • Lead team through project execution, managing change collaboratively with business partners.
  • Monitor and ensure compliance with underwriting practices and procedures within assigned programs or functional areas.
  • Build and maintain strong, collaborative relationships with internal stakeholders, external business partners, and vendors to deliver innovative and quality risk management solutions.
  • Represent State Farm in key external industry groups and initiatives, including NETS, IBHS, HSB, and wildfire public policy efforts.
