About The Position

This summer internship offers hands-on experience working with real insurance data and analytics projects as part of NFP’s Property & Casualty Actuarial team. You’ll work with experienced analysts and actuaries to analyze large datasets, build models and dashboards, automate workflows and translate data into actionable insights used by underwriters, leadership and clients. Tasks and projects in the past have included: Build a monte carlo claim simulation in R Create a dashboard displaying loss development triangles from a SQL database Make process enhancements to actuarial pricing and reserving excel workbooks. The intern will have the opportunity to attend regular meetings with the Property and Casualty team as well as staff meetings and training with interns from other departments.

Requirements

Working knowledge of Excel and at least one scripting language (R, Python, SQL)
Ability to work with large datasets and strong attention to detail
Comfort learning new tools and concepts in a fast-paced environment
Ability to manage tasks independently while working as part of a team
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Pursuit of a degree in a quantitative field such as Actuarial Science, Mathematics, Data Science or related discipline
Prior coursework, projects or internships involving data analysis and/or modeling

Nice To Haves

Initiation in the Casualty Actuarial Society exams a plus
Insurance knowledge or experience a plus

Responsibilities

Assist in collecting, cleaning, and analyzing data using Excel, R, Python, SQL and Power BI
Support the development of analytical tools, reports, and dashboards
Automate recurring data and reporting processes
Assist with statistical analysis and modeling
Validate data, review results, and help ensure outputs are accurate and well-documented
Collaborate with your manager and co-interns to brainstorm ideas, solve problems, and achieve project goals.
