About The Position

San Francisco Community Health Center is a federally qualified health center that provides culturally competent high quality medical care, mental health services, education, and outreach. We are a safety-net for the LGBTQ community, the unsheltered community, people who use substances, and those with mental health needs. We are an anchor-organization for San Francisco’s Tenderloin neighborhood, and we also lead regional, statewide, and national programming. We believe that everyone deserves access to the highest quality care served with dignity and respect! Taimon Booton Navigation Center (TBNC) is our shelter and service center for transgender, gender non-conforming & intersex people, as well as cisgender women, to find sanctuary, community, and a pathway to housing. Gender-supportive housing offers a crucial refuge, fostering belonging and safety. It is our hope that everyone who stays at TBNC leaves feeling safer, more supported, and on their way to stable housing. Under the supervision of the Shift Supervisor and Director, Shelter Monitors are responsible for the operation and security of the shelter site and the supervision of the shelter guests. The shelter operates 7 days per week, 365 days a year, and staff work one of three shifts:  Day shift; 630am-3pm swing shift; 230pm-11pm overnight- 1030pm-7am

Requirements

  • At least 2 years of experience providing services to low-income, and homeless individuals.
  • At least 2 years of customer service experience or equivalent.
  • Must be able to work on weekends and/or holidays as needed.
  • Strong commitment to serving low-income and underserved communities.
  • Ability to relate to and communicate with Transgender and gender non-conforming individuals.
  • Commitment to social justice issues, and familiarity with SFCHC’s mission.
  • Proficient English language skills verbal and written.
  • Computer proficiency (Microsoft suite, e-mail, digital forms, etc.)
  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Must obtain TB clearance (within past 12 months) and complete background check upon hire.
  • Current with vaccinations including latest Covid-19 vaccine with at least one booster, and seasonal flu, and able to provide proof.

  • Volunteer experience and transferable skills will be considered.
  • Experience working in an FQHC or other type of Community Health Center.

Responsibilities

  • Demonstrate a profound understanding and knowledge of working with LGBTQ, and people experiencing homelessness.
  • Ensure the safety and security of shelter site and respond to emergency situations as needed.
  • Always enforce all shelter policies with guests.
  • Have a deep understanding of and can explain shelter rules and policies to guests.
  • Report issues requiring repairs and maintenance to Operations Manager.
  • Create daily reports in compliance with shelter policies and regulations.
  • Facilitate daily check-in and check-out of guests from the shelter.
  • Mediate and de-escalate conflicts using methods learned in training.
  • Remain awake and alert during assigned shifts.
  • Attend regularly scheduled meetings, trainings, and activities.
  • Always nurture a respectful and inclusive environment.
  • Comply with policies, procedures, and laws pertaining to the operation of a navigation center.
  • Monitor the perimeter of the site and escort staff and participants as required for safety.
  • Inspect and report damaged or malfunctioning equipment to Operations Manager immediately.
  • Maintain highest level of client confidentiality following HIPAA regulations.
  • Ability to work nights.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
