About The Position

Responsibilities of the Overnight Counselor Shift Supervisor are to provide support, guidance, and training to the Overnight Counselors working in our four group homes/community residences located in Schenectady, NY. We serve adults who have a diagnosis of mental illness and living in a group home with the goal of independent living. Specific duties of the Overnight Counselor Shift Supervisor included: Train and provide shift supervision for all community residence Overnight Counselors. Provide support to Overnight Counselors as needed during their shifts by communicating with the Overnight Counselors regularly and responding to their call for assistance. Complete periodic checks on Overnight Counselors and ensure Overnight Counselors are performing all assigned tasks including medication counts and the daily cleaning to maintain a healthy environment for our clients. Review the Communication Logs of each group home. Documents throughout your shift in each of the community residence’s Communication Logs indicating that you have been at the program and any other relevant information that needs to be shared. Provide overnight shift coverage as needed when there are call-ins and/or vacancies that can’t be filled by finding coverage from the list of employees available. Regular communication with Program Directors. Foster open communication, and show understanding, support, and respect to all clients. Provide supportive, purposeful counseling when needed, with a focus on decision making and problem- solving skills. Be alert to potential crisis, intervene in crisis and emergencies, and make appropriate reports. Demonstrate appropriate assessment and crisis intervention skills. Teach coping skills to assist consumers in dealing with daily activities. Promote a culture of inclusion and belonging.

Requirements

  • An acceptable combination of relevant education including: a bachelor’s degree and 1 year experience in human services, associate degree and 3 years’ experience in human services, or a high school diploma and 5 years’ experience in human services.
  • Valid and insurable driver's license.
  • Agency vehicles are available for transporting clients.

Nice To Haves

  • Mental health experience preferred.
  • Supervisory experience preferred.
