About The Position

Rust Automation & Controls is seeking a motivated Outside Sales Engineer to support and grow the Sacramento territory. This role focuses on sales and promotions of assigned product specialties while working closely with the Inside Sales Engineering team and directly with end users. Key objectives include: Achieving sales goals through increased revenue and gross margin Developing and maintaining strong relationships with existing and prospective customers Executing territory and account strategic planning Developing opportunities and reporting on key sales activities

Requirements

  • Technical degree or 2–3 years of industrial sales experience (or related field)
  • Willingness and ability to travel within the assigned territory, including occasional overnight travel
  • Self-motivated with the ability to set aggressive goals and exceed them
  • Strong desire to learn, grow, and be coachable
  • Resilient, adaptable, and solution-oriented with a positive, can-do attitude
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with a customer-first mindset
  • Ability to manage customer expectations and identify new sales opportunities
  • Timely, professional communication with customers, managers, and manufacturing partners.
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills
  • Ability to work independently while leveraging internal resources
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and CRM/ERP systems (e.g., NetSuite, Salesforce)

Responsibilities

  • Learning and maintaining working knowledge of all products and solutions offered by Rust Automation & Controls
  • Prospecting and promoting products, services, and solutions within assigned commercial and industrial accounts
  • Growing territory sales and gross margin through regular in-person customer visits, effective use of video conferencing, and proactive communication via email, text, and phone.
  • Re-engaging dormant or inactive customers through targeted outreach and personal interaction
  • Collaborating with manufacturing partners through calls and emails, participation in webinars and seminars, and on-site visits.
  • Partnering with the Inside Sales Professional team to provide timely and accurate customer information
  • Performing site walkdowns in industrial and commercial environments
  • Maintaining a robust CRM database that includes accounts, contacts, opportunities, and projects.
  • Clearly articulating customer solutions and collaborating with internal teams to execute effectively
