About The Position

The Outreach and Student Engagement Specialist for the Patty Hanks Shelton School of Nursing (PHSSN) at McMurry University serves as a key representative of McMurry Nursing, focusing on fostering meaningful connections with prospective students, current nursing students, and the wider community. This role is responsible for designing and implementing initiatives that enhance student engagement, promote nursing program opportunities, and strengthen PHSSN's visibility and reputation across McMurry University and partner institutions.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED and some college required.
  • Strong organizational skills with the capacity to balance competing demands and adapt to shifting priorities.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to engage diverse audiences and collaborate effectively.

  • Experience with Microsoft Word, Excel, file storage/sharing platforms such as Sharepoint/Google Drive/Teams.
  • Ability to work occasional evenings or weekends as required for recruitment and engagement events.

Nice To Haves

  • Minimum Bachelor's degree with experience in healthcare, communications, education, or related field.
  • Experience working in nursing, healthcare education, or academic advising.
  • Familiarity with compliance processes related to clinical placements in nursing or healthcare programs.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and coordinate outreach strategies to recruit prospective nursing students.
  • Represent McMurry Nursing at college fairs, high school visits, community events, and healthcare-related outreach activities.
  • Cultivate partnerships with local schools, healthcare providers, and community organizations to expand awareness of nursing career pathways.
  • Collaborate with McMurry Marketing and Communications personnel to assist with marketing and communication efforts, including social media, newsletters, and recruitment materials.
  • Plan and implement student engagement initiatives that foster a sense of belonging, leadership, and professional development among nursing students.
  • Support faculty and students throughout the advising process.
  • Collaborate with faculty and staff to create co-curricular programming such as workshops, mentoring opportunities, service projects, and wellness events.
  • Support new student onboarding and orientation activities for PHSSN programs.
  • Serve as a resource for nursing students across the university to promote success and address concerns.
  • Oversee the collection, tracking, and verification of all clinical compliance documents, including immunizations, background checks, drug screenings, CPR certification, and liability insurance.
  • Maintain accurate and confidential student records to ensure readiness for clinical placement and compliance with clinical affiliation agreements.
  • Communicate deadlines, requirements, and updates to students in a timely manner.
  • Collaborate with clinical partners and faculty to ensure compliance with state, accreditation, and institutional requirements.
  • Provide guidance and support to students navigating the clinical clearance process.
  • Maintain accurate records of outreach and engagement activities.
  • Prepare internal reports and assessments to evaluate program effectiveness and student outcomes.
  • Manage nursing school application process and data in support of the PHSSN Admission, Progression, and Retention Committee.
  • Maintain accurate records of PHSSN application, admission, progression, retention, and graduation data to assist with completion of reports for the Texas Board of Nursing, the Commission for Collegiate Nursing Education, SACSCOC, and other stakeholders as required.
  • Assist with event logistics, scheduling, and budget tracking as needed.
  • Coordinate service-learning and volunteer opportunities to connect students with the local healthcare community.
  • Contribute to the development of partnerships that enhance clinical placement opportunities and career pipelines for nursing students.
  • Collaborate with McMurry alumni relations personnel to strengthen nursing alumni engagement through events, communications, and networking initiatives.
  • Demonstrates a commitment to competently perform his/her job duties and responsibilities within established time frames.
