About The Position

Penn State Berks is seeking applicants for the position of Student Engagement and Leadership Specialist. This position provides direct oversight of registered student organizations (student clubs), plans and implements large scale campus programs where Student Affairs plays a key role, recruits and oversees orientation leaders and the Welcome Week/Weekend program, manages the Alternative Spring Break program, organizes student leadership workshops, and advises either the Campus Activities Board or co-advise the Student Government Association. The Student Engagement and Leadership Specialist will also collaborate with the Associate Director of Student Affairs to implement programs and initiatives sponsored by the Office of Inclusive Excellence. This position will work on a team within Student Engagement & Leadership to ensure support for established programs and activities, establish goals and objectives, measure outcomes, develop policies and procedures, and manage program and individual budgets.

Requirements

  • Experience in student engagement, including supporting student clubs and organizations, developing student leaders, and coordinating related activities
  • A strong ability to self-motivate and work effectively both independently and collaboratively
  • Proven experience collaborating with other departments to support student success and engagement
  • If filled as Student Engagement Specialist - Senior Professional, this position requires: Master's Degree 6+ years of relevant experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience accepted
  • If filled as Student Engagement Specialist - Advanced Professional, this position requires: Bachelor's Degree 3+ years of relevant experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience accepted
  • This position requires the following clearances in addition to applicable background checks: PA State Police Criminal Background Check, PA Child Abuse History Clearance Form, and Federal (FBI) Fingerprint Criminal Background Check.
  • This position requires that you operate a motor vehicle as a part of your job duties. A valid driver’s license and successful completion of a motor vehicle records check will be required in addition to standard background checks.
  • Applicants must be authorized to work in the U.S.

  • Multilingual proficiency—particularly in spoken Spanish—is preferred

Responsibilities

  • Advise, train, and provide support for all student clubs/organizations, including club creation, event/trip coordination and advertising, supply purchases, and budget management.
  • Assist in club advisor training.
  • Manage a system that houses information about clubs, create and maintain club-related forms, handbooks and website.
  • Advise and develop student leaders including orientation leaders, club officers, Campus Activities Board or Student Government Association members, and student workers.
  • Plan and implement large-scale programs and collaborate with important campus stakeholders
  • Collaborate with other offices across campus with initiatives related to New Student Orientation, Family & Homecoming Weekend, Student Leadership Awards Ceremony, Admissions events, and other collaborative programs and events
