About The Position

Performs complex social, therapeutic, and psychosocial intake services to individuals with severe mental illness and legal involvement from a person-centered, trauma informed perspective. Responsibilities include serving as the Program Coordinator working as a liaison with the local criminal justice system, including courts and law enforcement personnel. Will provide psychotherapy (including CBT, CPT or TF-CBT) and outpatient competency restoration education to individuals on the OCR caseload; Position provides face to face/telehealth services with individuals/families in the office or community at least twice weekly. Provides screenings and recommendations for OCR programs and ensures communication/connection to appropriate treatment teams (internal and external) to include coordinating internal referrals for supplemental services. Is responsible for documenting, initiating, and collaborating with community partners, such as, state hospital and local courts, while completing uniform assessments, bi-weekly reports, and organizing CMEs with prescribers and documenting the plan for services to meet the individual’s identified needs. Completes detailed documentation in a timely manner on all services provided. Requires use of initiative and independent judgment to provide appropriate, person-centered interventions in the community, home and correction facilities to individuals and families on caseloads. Must be effective at troubleshooting and organizing support, interventions, and services to achieve outcomes.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree in counseling, social work, or related field.
  • Licensed in the state of Texas as a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) or Licensed Clinical Master Social Worker (LCSW) or Licensed Marriage & Family Therapist (LMFT) strongly preferred.
  • Intern status may be considered dependent on supervision status and time until full licensure
  • Must have at least 3 years related experience in the field of mental health
  • Must have at least 1-year related experience working with the court/legal system
  • CBT, CPT, TF-CBT certification within 1 year of hire required.
  • Knowledge of the current version of the Diagnostic Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM).
  • Experience providing psychosocial assessments, treatment planning, service coordination, skills training, counseling, and crisis intervention services to adults and adolescents with severe mental illness.
  • Knowledge of the social services system and the ability to connect individuals with appropriate services.
  • Knowledge of court/legal system to include compliance with written reporting procedures
  • Knowledge of outpatient competency restoration education
  • Ability to establish relationships with representatives in the community such as judges, district attorney’s office and other criminal justice agencies to identify individuals for OCR and provide general education to the community
  • Knowledge of counseling techniques and processes in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Cognitive Processing Therapy
  • Ability to write clearly and professionally on all services and internal/external communication
  • Ability to think clearly and logically to deal with potentially dangerous and/or emotional situations.
  • Ability to respond to individuals with patience, empathy and understanding.
  • Knowledge of Trauma Informed Care practices and culturally and linguistically appropriate services
  • Organized, detail oriented, and computer proficient.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct intake assessments on individuals referred by the court system to determine clinical eligibility for mental health services.
  • Provide cognitive behavioral therapy, cognitive process therapy and/or trauma informed CBT to authorized individuals according to the treatment plan.
  • Provide Crisis intervention services to individuals as necessary
  • Provide Psychiatric Rehabilitative Services (individual &/or groups) as described in the Texas Administrative Code. Services include: o Routine Case Management o Skills Training and Development o Medication Education / Patient and Family Education o Psychosocial Rehabilitation
  • Ensure direct service time/productivity standards are being met.
  • Understands and implements trauma informed care practices.
  • Coordinate effectively with community partners (Courts and State Hospital) and LPS.
