About The Position

The OT Engineer in Refining Digital Operations for the St. Paul Park Refinery will provide operational and technical support for the St. Paul Park refinery Operational Technology (OT) server and network environments. The successful candidate must understand business requirements and translate these requirements into solutions. The position must work collaboratively with the Process Control Engineer Team to seek solutions to problems. The position must champion compliance and change efforts which result in improved reliability and security of infrastructure services. It is expected that the candidate will always follow the refinery personnel safety requirements. This position belongs to a family of jobs with increasing responsibility, competency, and skill level. Actual position title and pay grade will be based on the selected candidate’s experience and qualifications.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Information Technology, related field or equivalent experience.
  • 2+ years of relevant experience.
  • Business Acumen – Applies knowledge of MPC’s business, industry and the marketplace to advance the organization’s goals. Makes decisions and recommendations clearly linked to MPC’s strategy.
  • Business Process Improvements – The process of analyzing business processes and workflows within the organization and identifying new approaches to redesign business activities or optimize performance, quality and speed of processes - including identifying and evaluating process automation opportunities.
  • Cost Optimization – The process to analyze, plan and manage costs for cost efficiency and expense reduction, while maximizing business value.
  • IT Infrastructure Management – Planning, design, delivery and control of information technology infrastructure.
  • IT Security Management – The process, tools, and methodologies applied for the protection of information and information systems against unauthorized access or modification of information.
  • Network Administration – Organizing, installing, and supporting the organization's computer systems, including local area networks LANs, wide area networks (WANs), network segments, intranets, and other data communication systems.
  • Policy Management – The process of creating, implementing and maintaining policies and procedures within an organization.
  • Service Delivery Management – The manner in which an organization provides users access to IT services, which include applications, data storage and other business resources.
  • System Administration – Performs a variety of functions including user management, system monitoring, system configuration, performance tuning, backup and recovery, and access control.
  • System Testing – The process of testing conducted on a complete integrated system to evaluate the system's compliance with its specified requirements.
  • Systems Design – The process of designing technical solutions and systems to meet specified business and user requirements that are compatible with established system architectures, as well as organizational and performance standards.
  • Troubleshooting – The act or process of discovering and resolving problems, disputes, or mechanical issues through a systematic, usually iterative, approach.
  • Vendor Management – The process to maintain relationships with key vendors that deliver products, services, and support to the business. Simultaneously, negotiating and managing contracts with key service providers to ensure service levels are set appropriately and met on an ongoing basis.

Responsibilities

  • Conducts regular monitoring of infrastructure components and systems to identify performance issues or anomalies.
  • Analyzes collected data, establishes performance baselines, and creates reports to identify trends and potential areas of improvement.
  • Collaborates with senior engineers to implement performance tuning strategies and optimize system resources for better efficiency.
  • Provides technical support to users, troubleshoots and resolves complex hardware and software issues, may engage in vendor technical support.
  • Applies predefined procedures for system tuning and optimization using IT Service Management practices.
  • Documents support requests, resolution, and troubleshooting steps.
  • Develops and implements reporting frameworks to track and analyze infrastructure performance and utilization metrics; creates or leverages existing dashboards and visualizations for monitoring.
  • Contributes to the design and configuration of hardware and software systems, considering scalability, performance, and security aspects.
  • Builds and deploys infrastructure components, ensuring proper configuration and integration.
  • Actively participates in knowledge sharing activities, such as team meetings, presentations, or workshops.
  • Collaborates with team members to identify gaps in knowledge and propose solutions to improve documentation and information sharing.
  • Performs and collaborates with the process Owner on root cause analysis of issues and tracks, documents and reports identified patterns.
  • Performs routine and preventive maintenance tasks to ensure uninterrupted and optimum system performance.
  • Communicates effectively with stakeholders, aligning the understanding of the requirements with build teams for solution delivery.
  • Manages the definition of business processes in order to measure, analyze, improve and control the process being reviewed in partnership with business and development teams.
  • Switches, routers, firewalls, Layer 2/Layer 3 configuration.
  • Identifying and escalating cybersecurity events, managing security policies, and risk assessment.
  • Auditing systems and ensuring software licensing accuracy.
  • Data historian support; database maintenance; backups; antivirus & allow-listing administration.
  • Problem resolution in a manufacturing environment with off-hours support.
  • Works within Agile frameworks to support iterative development, ensure stories are well-defined, prioritized, and aligned with business objectives.
