Osp Engineer

TEKsystemsPhoenix, AZ

About The Position

We are seeking an Underground Fiber OSP Engineer for a role that blends underground fiber route engineering with heavy project and vendor management. This is not a traditional engineering-only position — it requires someone assertive, organized, and capable of driving vendors, enforcing SLAs, validating designs, and moving projects forward against aggressive timelines. You will engineer underground fiber routes, review vendor-submitted civil and fiber designs, coordinate with municipalities, manage deliverables, and ensure accuracy and compliance before any construction moves forward. Candidates must be highly proactive, able to self-direct, communicate clearly, and operate comfortably in a remote/virtual environment with periodic site visits.

Responsibilities

  • Engineer underground fiber routes (boring, trenching, conduit, handholes/manholes).
  • Conduct field surveys to validate underground paths, utility conflicts, and surface conditions.
  • Review and redline vendor‑submitted designs prior to municipal submission.
  • Validate construction packages, conduit profiles, and civil layout drawings.
  • Utilize GIS tools (e.g., ESRI‑based platforms like LightPlan) for design verification.
  • Analyze, correct, and approve fiber and civil OSP designs submitted by third‑party vendors.
  • Update redlines, as‑builts, and GIS records to ensure accuracy.
  • Manage multiple OSP fiber projects simultaneously with aggressive deadlines.
  • Enforce vendor SLAs and hold vendors accountable for quality, timelines, and deliverables.
  • Coordinate with vendors such as civil contractors, fiber engineering firms, and survey teams.
  • Track progress, document updates, escalate issues, and ensure all project steps stay on schedule.
  • Work directly with city officials and permitting authorities to resolve design conflicts.
  • Support preparation of permit packages, including drawings, notes, BOMs, and route justification.
  • Expedite approvals by ensuring submissions are complete, accurate, and compliant.
  • Communicate across engineering, construction, field, and permitting teams.
  • Participate in remote meetings using Teams, Outlook, shared drives, and similar tools.
  • Provide progress updates, issue logs, and timely documentation of changes.
