About The Position

Position Summary: The Trauma Performance Improvement (PI) Coordinator develops, implements, and evaluates trauma service line performance initiatives to advance safe, high‑quality care. The role oversees quality standards, clinical documentation practices, and policy/procedure development in alignment with American College of Surgeons (ACS) trauma standards and State of Montana requirements. The coordinator partners with the multidisciplinary trauma team to optimize systems of care across the trauma continuum and improve the physical, psychosocial, rehabilitative, educational and spiritual needs of the trauma patient and/or their family. The position supports Bozeman Health’s mission, vision, and values through data-driven performance improvement and education.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Nursing (BSN).
  • Current Montana Registered Nurse (RN) license.
  • Current American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS).
  • Current Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC) certification, or ability to obtain within six (6) months of hire.
  • Two (2) years of RN experience in the assigned trauma service line (e.g., Emergency, ICU, OR, Surgical, and/or Orthopedics).

Nice To Haves

  • Orthopedic or trauma‑related certification(s) such as Trauma Certified Registered Nurse (TCRN), Orthopaedic Nursing Certification (ONC), Certified Perioperative Nurse (CNOR), or equivalent.
  • Two (2) years of experience in healthcare program or quality improvement management.
  • TNCC or Trauma Care After Resuscitation (TCAR) instructor.
  • Experience with trauma registry and quality programs (e.g., ACS Trauma Quality Improvement Program [TQIP]).

Responsibilities

  • Drives trauma program performance improvement tactics and training for team members; facilitates internal and external education for physicians, staff, EMS, and the community.
  • Collaborates with Trauma Registrars, the Trauma Program Manager, and Trauma Medical Directors to design and generate reports and project documentation; analyzes patient data per ACS and State of Montana requirements to identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Leads or supports PI projects from problem identification through sustainability, ensuring closed‑loop follow-up and documentation of outcomes.
  • Partners with internal stakeholders to develop and implement quality improvement plans, clinical guidelines, and standard work.
  • Engages external partners (including EMS agencies and referring/receiving facilities) to conduct routine case follow‑up and coordinate joint quality initiatives and outreach education.
  • Provides bedside clinical support for trauma patients as needed within scope and competency.
  • Coordinates preparation for ACS verification or reverification, including mock surveys, document readiness, and action plan tracking.
  • Participates in case reviews and committee work, including Morbidity and Mortality (M&M), Trauma Committee, Trauma Case Conference, Emergency Response Trauma Advisory Committee (ERTAC), and State Trauma Care Committee (STCC); serves as a resource and role model for professional nursing practice.
  • Maintains accurate, timely, and compliant documentation in accordance with Bozeman Health policy and regulatory/verification standards.
  • Monitors key performance indicators (KPIs), dashboards, and trauma quality metrics; escalates trends and risks and recommends countermeasures.
  • Upholds Bozeman Health safety, compliance, and patient experience standards.
