About The Position

Under the supervision of a licensed independent practitioner, the Orthopedic Tech job applies casts, splints and other DME to the Orthopaedic patient population in an outpatient setting. This role provides patient/family teaching to a wide variety of patients with varying educational levels. This role also orders and maintains supplies in the cast room. Individual shift rotation and schedules will be established with your specific Nurse Manager/Practice Manager. Schedules, including requirements of shift rotations and hours of work may be adjusted as necessary to meet unit requirements and/or as needed. Age Specific groups served: All Physical Requirements (includes use of assistance devices as appropriate): Physical: Lifting greater than 100 lbs. Other: Exposure to potentially hazardous and infectious substances Activities: Prolonged standing, Frequent bending, Walking (distance), Climbing (steps, ladder, other), Reaching (overhead, extensive, repetitive) Mental/Sensory: Problem solving, Hearing, Speak clearly, Write legibly, Reading, Logical thinking Emotional: Fast pace environment, Steady pace, Able to handle multiple priorities, Frequent and intense customer interactions, Noisy environment, Able to adapt to frequent, change Days EEO Employer/Disabled/Protected Veteran/41 CFR 60-1.4.

Requirements

  • BLS Certification Required
  • High school diploma or GED required
  • Functions under direction of a licensed independent practitioner in providing patient care related to casts, splints and wound care all in accordance with hospital, nursing and unit policy/procedure.
  • Requires prior approval or guidance from supervisor regarding time/schedule changes, legal issues, direct care which deviates from standard and identifying educational resources to meet developmental needs.

Nice To Haves

  • Current/active OTC certification
  • Previous experience in the outpatient clinical setting
