Located in the vibrant Tuscan Village development in Salem, NH, the center combines cutting-edge medical expertise with a seamless patient experience, ensuring high-quality care close to home. We are seeking a full-time, 40-hour Medical Assistant/Orthopedic Tech join our team! The Orthopedic practice is open from 8:00am to 5:00pm, so scheduled are staggered accordingly. As true partners to our nurses and providers, our Medical Assistant/Ortho Techs get the opportunity to work autonomously to the top of their education/certification while also functioning as part of the collaborative team. The Medical Assistant/Orthopedic Technician supports providers by rooming patients, completing intake, and assisting with orthopedic care. Responsibilities include applying and removing casts, braces, and soft goods; performing dressing changes, wound care, and suture or staple removal; providing gait training with crutches; and educating patients on proper use and care of durable medical equipment. The role includes documenting care in the electronic medical record, answering patient calls and portal messages, maintaining exam rooms and supplies, and supporting post-operative and general clinical needs. The role supports healthcare teams by assisting with both clinical and non-clinical patient services under the direction of healthcare providers. Key responsibilities include taking vital signs, documenting patient information, scheduling appointments, and managing patient flow. This role involves direct interaction with patients to ensure their comfort and address concerns, as well as collaboration with physicians, nurse practitioners, and nursing staff to facilitate efficient care.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent required
  • Direct MA experience or medical field work 1-2 years required
  • Basic Life Support [BLS Certification] - Data Conversion - Various Issuers preferred
  • Certified Medical Assistant [National Certification] - Data Conversion - Various Issuers preferred

Nice To Haves

  • Associate's Degree Medical Assisting preferred

Responsibilities

  • Assists junior Medical Assistants with day-to-day questions and responsibilities and helps facilitate their learning by participating in onboarding training.
  • Show patients to examination rooms, prepare necessary equipment for healthcare providers, and interview patients to obtain medical information, measure their vital signs, weight, and height, and record information in the patient's medical record.
  • Explain treatment procedures, medications, diets, and physician instructions to patients, ordering and organizing educational materials to reinforce patient education.
  • Perform general office duties, such as answering phones, taking dictation, and completing insurance forms, while acting as a liaison with other departments and advocating for patients with a positive customer service approach.
  • Collect blood, tissue, or other laboratory specimens, log them, and prepare them for testing; perform phlebotomy if competence is demonstrated.
  • Maintains inventory of immunizations and check expiration dates.
  • Provides immunizations (as applicable) which requires certification or 3 years of experience administering a vaccine and supervision of a provider.
  • Responsible for improving appropriate departmental quality initiatives, such as two patient identifiers and hand hygiene.
