Job Summary: The Optometry Assistant will perform administrative and certain clinical duties under the direction of the optometrist. Administrative duties may include scheduling appointments, maintaining medical records, billing, and coding information for insurance purposes. Optometry Assistant clinical duties may include taking and recording vital signs and medical histories, run pre- tests for ocular tonometry and auto refractor, assist patient with picking frames or contact lenses, and perform glasses fittings.

Requirements

  • BLS Certification required within 90 days of hire.
  • All employees are required to provide proof of vaccination for Flu, Hepatitis B and Tuberculosis (TB) as part of our commitment to maintaining a safe and healthy workplace.

Nice To Haves

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Two years work experience in optometry setting.

Responsibilities

  • Enters patient information on schedule, creates electronic chart, bills out services properly and records patient’s medical history.
  • Prepare treatment rooms for patient examinations, keeping the rooms neat and clean.
  • Clean and sterilize instruments and dispose of contaminated supplies.
  • Show patients to examination rooms and prepare them for the physician.
  • Explain treatment procedures, or optometrist' instructions to patients.
  • Help optometrist examine and treat patients, handing them instruments or materials and assisting as needed.
  • Responsibly follows the Clinic Exposure Control Plans/Bloodborne and Airborne Pathogens.
  • Demonstrates respect and regard for the dignity of all patients, families, visitors and fellow employees to ensure a professional, responsible and courteous environment.
  • All other duties as assigned.
