The University of Rochester’s Laboratory for Laser Energetics (LLE) is looking for its next Beamlines Technician. Here at LLE, we take pride in being a national resource for research and education in both science and technology! Our focus is on using lasers to create fusion energy.

Requirements

  • Associate’s degree in Optics or technology /engineering field and 2 years of relevant experience required (4 years’ preferred)
  • Or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Strong technical aptitude
  • Ability to lift to 50 lbs and navigate stairs/ladders
  • High degree of manual dexterity
  • Excellent verbal and written communication
  • Strong interpersonal skills working in a team-based environment
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and ability to learn additional software
  • Shift flexibility (Morning and Evening shifts)

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with optical, mechanical, electrical systems
  • Experience handling precision optical components
  • Proficient with reading and interpreting mechanical and electrical schematics
  • Technical writing experience

Responsibilities

  • Opto-Mechanical technicians are responsible for the operation, maintenance, upgrades to the amplifiers as well as the support systems including water/glycol cooling systems, nitrogen delivery systems, and the flashlamp test facility.
  • Operators are expected to understand these systems well and have mechanical aptitude to troubleshoot and repair
  • Supporting the operation of equipment and instrumentation for laser physics experiments which frequently involves being in a cleanroom environment
  • Precision alignment of optical systems
  • Troubleshooting mechanical and electrical issues
  • Perform preventative maintenance
  • Supporting engineers in design and installation of new equipment
