The University of Rochester’s Laboratory for Laser Energetics (LLE) is looking for its next Experimental Operations Technician. We are looking for someone who is excited to learn, exceptionally reliable, and attentive to details. Requirements

  • Associates degree in science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics and 1 year or equivalent combination of education and experience in a technical position required
  • Obtainment of Security Clearance required upon hire
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. required

Nice To Haves

  • Strong mechanical aptitude preferred
  • Excellent verbal and written communication preferred
  • Strong interpersonal skills suitable for working in a team-based environment preferred
  • Darkroom/film development experience preferred.
  • Experience with automated photographic film processors and/or image plate scanners preferred
  • Experience with chemistry operations preferred.
  • Experience with radiological materials preferred.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office with the ability to learn additional software preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Assists in the assembly, alignment, and testing of optical and mechanical components used in devices such as lasers, imaging systems, and other optical instruments.
  • Ensures the proper functioning and calibration of optical systems.
  • May collaborate with engineers to troubleshoot and resolve issues, document procedures, and contribute to the overall manufacturing and quality control processes.
  • Load/unload X-Ray film and image plate cartridges used in nuclear physics experiments.
  • Process photographic film and image plate.
  • Maintain film processing equipment and chemistry.
  • Support the operation of various equipment and diagnostics related to laser physics experiments
  • Troubleshoot mechanical, electrical and optical issues
  • Perform regular preventative maintenance
  • Maintain complex vacuum systems
  • Troubleshoot equipment issues.
  • Qualify as a NYS Radiation Worker
  • Maintain radiological containment areas
  • Create and update system documentation and procedures.
  • Morning and Evening shift work is required.
