EOI Space specializes in developing and deploying a network of satellites in Very Low Earth Orbit (VLEO) to provide ultra-high-resolution Earth imagery. EOI Space is looking for an Opto-Mechanical Assembly Technician with strong technical expertise and a demonstrated background in spacecraft or subsystem development to help drive the design, integration, and testing of EOI’s satellites. The Opto-Mechanical Assembly Technician will support the alignment and integration of the Payload Assembly, with particular emphasis on optical integration and performance. This role involves technical execution across integration and test phases, working closely with subsystem leads, test engineers, and program management to ensure cohesive spacecraft development.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in a technical role, with a focus on mechanical, manufacturing, test, or electrical areas
  • Proven experience with cleaning, handling, and bonding optics
  • Proven experience with mechanical assembly, including welding/sheet metal fabrication, machining, and testing
  • Proficient in using various tools and equipment, such as machining tools, CNC equipment, test equipment, and measurement instruments
  • Experience in reading and understanding engineering drawings to create part or construct assemblies
  • Able to lift 30lbs on a daily basis
  • Ability to work effectively independently seeking new opportunities to assist other individuals and programs

Nice To Haves

  • Associate or bachelor’s degree in a relevant field (e.g., mechanical engineering, manufacturing engineering, machining) preferred
  • Familiarity with optical test equipment, including, but not limited to, interferometers, theodolites, and laser trackers
  • Experience operating forklifts and other material handling equipment
  • Valid overhead crane operator certification or ability to obtain within 6 months. Lifting and rigging up to 30 tons
  • Experience with Microsoft Office Suite and general comfortability with computers and other technology
  • Experience working in a team environment, with strong communication and collaboration skills

Responsibilities

  • Optics handling: Including, but not limited to, cleaning, integration, and bonding
  • Mechanical Assembly and Fabrication: Fabricate and assemble mechanical and electrical components ensuring precise tolerances and specifications
  • Troubleshooting and Repair: Identify and troubleshoot issues with equipment, components, devices, or systems, and perform repairs, calibrations, and adjustments as needed
  • Machining and Fabrication: Utilize machining capabilities, such as lathes, milling machines, and grinders, welders, shear, press brake, etc. to fabricate parts and components
  • Overhead Crane and Material Handling: Operate overhead cranes, forklifts, and other material handling equipment to move and position heavy components, devices, or systems
  • Quality Control: Inspect and test equipment, components, devices, or systems to ensure compliance with quality standards and specifications
  • Documentation and Reporting: Maintain accurate records and documentation of work performed, test results, and maintenance activities
