About The Position

Come join a company where what you do makes a difference. For over 50 years, Zygo Corporation has been a global leader in the design and manufacture of advanced optical metrology systems and ultra-precise optical components and assemblies. Navitar joined the Zygo family in 2022 , bringing to our portfolio solutions that include complete optomechanical and optoelectronic assembly and sub-assembly systems with products that range from high magnification motorized zoom imaging systems to fisheye projection lenses. Together, we are a worldwide supplier of optical metrology instruments, high precision optical components, and complex electro-optical system design and manufacturing services recognized as a valued partner by our customers for innovative technology, application expertise, product reliability, and responsiveness. We are dedicated to helping you grow your career by using all your talents, insights and experiences in a welcoming team environment. Bring your passion, commitment and curiosity and come grow with us as together we work to make our world a better place.

Requirements

  • Primary emphasis on design and testing activities of digital imaging systems including zoom finite and infinite conjugate lens systems, high power objectives, illumination packages, and projection lenses with internal zoom and focus
  • Understand the level of acceptable quality for each project deliverable by evaluating system optical and mechanical tolerances
  • Prepare detailed GD&T drawings, specification documents, assembly procedures and other necessary documentation for complex projects to ensure consistent manufacturability (vendor identification and review)
  • Work on new and current products to establish fixturing requirements and application-specific test protocol for interferometers, horizontal and vertical MTF measurement bench, modular projection alignment system
  • Master’s degree in mechanical and manufacturing engineering
  • Industrial experience creating detailed GD&T drawings with vendors for optical assemblies
  • Extensive use with CAD software, preferably Inventor and Autodesk Suite
  • Minimum 10 years experience in engineering design theories and principles related to geometrical optics and optical tolerances, optical mounting, adhesives, alignment, precision zoom and focus mechanisms on both projection and imaging systems, linear travel stability, thermal flow control and manipulation, illumination techniques within optical systems
  • Minimum 6 years of project management for electro-optical systems, understanding of product development stages for optical systems, keeping current with broader market and advances in technology in vision systems and projection

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with assembly of precision optics for stacked and drop in assemblies, use of optical adhesives, and various alignment tools, proper cleaning of glass and metal
  • Experience testing lens assemblies using Christie, Panasonic, and Sony projectors, Zygo interferometer, laser alignment systems, Trioptics ImageMaster HR & Optikos OP MTF lens evaluation systems, and can identify testing needs to spec out new test equipment
  • Experience creating and executing DOE and Regression analysis tests on Minitab

Responsibilities

  • Create manufacturable opto-mechanical systems from concepts developed between our clients and our optical engineers.
  • Use SolidWorks or other 3D modeling software to create accurate prototypes.
  • Conduct a review process directly with clients to ensure the design meets all their requirements.
  • Assignments may include ground up product design or development of legacy projects under the guidance of a Senior Engineer.
