About The Position

Description Key Responsibilities Technology Development Support new fiber product introductions, including specialty fibers and next-generation communications fibers. Lead scale-up of new preform designs and materials from development to full production. Partner with R&D scientists and engineers to translate fiber innovations into manufacturable processes. Process Ownership & Optimization Own and optimize fiber draw tower processes for novel development projects, including furnace thermal profiles, draw tension control, diameter control systems, coating application, and UV curing. Optimize key performance metrics including fiber attenuation, geometry, concentricity, coating adhesion, proof strength, and yield. Design and execute Design of Experiments (DOE) to improve process robustness and product performance. Lead root cause investigations and partner with equipment, manufacturing, and quality teams to drive continuous improvement Cross-Functional Leadership Collaborate with materials science, optics, polymer chemistry, equipment engineering, and quality teams. Required Qualifications BS/MS/PhD in Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Applied Physics or related field. 3+ years of experience in optical fiber manufacturing, fiber draw process engineering, or related high-precision thermal manufacturing. Strong data analysis, troubleshooting, and process optimization skills Typically requires a minimum of 5 years of related experience with a Bachelor’s degree; or 3 years and a Master’s degree; or a PhD without years experience Preferred Qualifications Experience with draw towers, coating systems, and fiber process control Safety Requirements All employees are required to follow the site EHS procedures and Coherent Corp. Requirements
