Requirements

  • BS/MS/PhD in Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Applied Physics or related field.
  • 3+ years of experience in optical fiber manufacturing, fiber draw process engineering, or related high-precision thermal manufacturing.
  • Strong data analysis, troubleshooting, and process optimization skills
  • Typically requires a minimum of 5 years of related experience with a Bachelor’s degree; or 3 years and a Master’s degree; or a PhD without years experience

  • Experience with draw towers, coating systems, and fiber process control

Responsibilities

  • Support new fiber product introductions, including specialty fibers and next-generation communications fibers.
  • Lead scale-up of new preform designs and materials from development to full production.
  • Partner with R&D scientists and engineers to translate fiber innovations into manufacturable processes.
  • Own and optimize fiber draw tower processes for novel development projects, including furnace thermal profiles, draw tension control, diameter control systems, coating application, and UV curing.
  • Optimize key performance metrics including fiber attenuation, geometry, concentricity, coating adhesion, proof strength, and yield.
  • Design and execute Design of Experiments (DOE) to improve process robustness and product performance.
  • Lead root cause investigations and partner with equipment, manufacturing, and quality teams to drive continuous improvement
  • Collaborate with materials science, optics, polymer chemistry, equipment engineering, and quality teams.
