About The Position

The incumbent will work in a comprehensive school health program under the supervision of the Community Health Nursing Consultant. This is a professional position responsible for supporting grant management, providing deliverables, teaching classes, mentoring Sarasota County Schools and Department of Health -Sarasota (DOH-Sarasota) School Health staff in program objectives, collaborating with community partners, tracking schedules, and submitting monthly reports to the Adolescent Health Office of the Florida Department of Health (FDOH) in Tallahassee. Additionally, this position is responsible for supporting delivering Sexually Transmitted Diseases (STD)/Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) presentations to students in middle and high schools, upon request.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in education or a health-related field
  • Training in REAL Essentials or another sexual risk avoidance education program or curriculum
  • Experience conducting health education and outreach

Responsibilities

  • Ensures program deliverables are met through partnering with Sarasota County School Board & other community agencies to utilize classroom and/or meeting time & space for the delivery of an 8-Module program designed for middle & high school age children.
  • Ensures program deliverables are met by introducing this program to parents in various venues.
  • Serves as contact for the Abstinence Education Program of the DOH-Sarasota for the Sarasota County Schools and other community agencies. Works with all appropriate DOH-Sarasota and Sarasota County Schools staff in order to promote this program to middle and high school students and parents.
  • Promotes program at Riverview High School and North Port High School Teen Parent Programs and encourages all students in those programs to participate in health education activities.
  • Plans schedule for curriculum delivery and working with community-based agencies providing programs
  • Creates and submits reports to Office of Adolescent Health at DOH as per their requirements. Utilizes DOH Program coordinator as support as necessary.
  • Meets with School Health Supervisor minimum of monthly to review program deliverables and progress at meeting program goals.
  • Reports progress of program to School Health Advisory Committee a minimum of annually and additionally upon request.
  • Acts as a fiscal liaison to manage the program budget in conjunction with the CHD Business Manager as required by Section 287.057 (13), Florida Statutes.

  • Performs related duties as necessary with adjustable scheduling.
  • Provides services prior to and following disasters as needed.
  • Shares information and teaching techniques with other School Health Educators
