Venesco is recruiting for an Pphthalmologist/Glaucoma specialist to provide services at the Columbia VA Medical Center. This is an excellent opportunity to make a difference in the lives of those who have served our country! Hours: Monday through Friday 8:00 am to 4:30 pm. Ophthalmologist will also rotate call at least on week per month to include the weekend. On-call physician must be available at all time for phone consults with VA residents and physicians. Must be available by phone within 15 minutes and within 60 minutes on site if needed.

Requirements

  • License: Shall have a current, full, unrestricted license to practice medicine in any State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States or the District of Columbia) when services are performed onsite on VA property.
  • Board Certification: Shall be Board Certified /Board Eligible by the American Board of Ophthalmology (ABO) http://abop.org/board-certification.
  • Life Support Certifications: Shall be certified in Basic Life Support (BLS) Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) or equivalency prior to starting the position.
  • Experience: Shall have two years of experience as an Ophthalmologist.
  • Glaucoma specialization/experience strongly preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Ophthalmologist will provide clinic and surgical ophthalmology services.
  • Evaluate patients’ medical histories to assess the the progression of their condition and associated risks
  • Perform comprehensive eye exams
  • Diagnose glaucoma and other eye-related diseases
  • Evaluate test results, outline and implement appropriate treatment plans
  • Prescribe and administer medications
  • Treat glaucoma by performing surgical procedures as needed
  • Monitor patients’ response to treatment
  • Adjust treatment plans in accordance with the needs of the patient
  • Educate patient about glaucoma, including risks, prevention strategies, and treatment possibilities
  • Refer patients to other specialists when necessary
  • Document patients' health progress
  • Stay up-to-date on advancements and in ophthalmology and glaucoma treatment
