About The Position

GENERAL PURPOSE Responsible for safely transporting people by bus on regularly scheduled High Valley Transit bus routes. This position also plays a critical role in meeting high levels of system performance, safety, and metrics by working directly with operators, HVT staff, riders, and community members. SUPERVISION EXERCISED Responsible for the supervision of a team of drivers. ESSENTIAL SUPERVISORY FUNCTIONS Provide regular support to a team of drivers through ride-alongs, system observation, communication of performance metrics, positive and constructive feedback, and training Create and follow through on corrective action plans where drivers need support Investigate and, in a timely manner, respond to and resolve comments from the general public regarding transit operations Assist in assigning buses and schedules daily as needed, including to cover driver shortages Assist in creating detours and emergency routing plans Support system operations by responding to accidents or incidents throughout the transit area Promote Safety and a Team Spirit with all employees Perform other related duties as assigned ESSENTIAL DRIVER FUNCTIONS Protect the safety of the transit passengers on each bus trip Follow a planned bus route, making scheduled stops to pick up or drop off passengers Assist passengers on and off the bus when help is needed Abide by all ADA and securement policies Adhere to all applicable HVT policies and procedures Communicate as needed with dispatch, customers, supervisors, maintenance team members, and other operators Contact dispatcher via two-way radio during the route; provide updates to the dispatcher and immediately report emergencies, accidents, incidents, or unanticipated delays and detours Visually inspect the bus before and/or after assigned routes (pre-trip/post-trip inspections) Report in writing any mechanical issues with the bus such as brakes, steering, body damage, or other issues Answer questions from customers Perform other related duties as assigned

Requirements

  • Legally eligible to work in the United States
  • Minimum 21 years old
  • Possess a valid Utah driver’s license with no moving violations in past six months
  • Class B Commercial Drivers License with Air Brakes and Passenger Endorsement
  • Must pass a criminal and background check
  • Must pass a drug screening
  • One year demonstrated excellence in customer service and one year working as a manager or supervisor or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Ability to perform the physical requirements of the job including regular walking, floor to waist lifting up to 50 lbs occasionally/carrying up to 15 lbs occasionally, reaching, pushing, pulling, kneeling, crouching, balancing, bending, and prolonged periods of sitting and standing
  • Department of Transportation Medical DOT Card
