About The Position

This Operator I position, FP026, is located within the Operations – Fields Point WWTF division. The role involves taking and recording readings of various plant equipment, including temperature, pressure, and vacuum. The operator will be responsible for operating a variety of pumps, valves, gates, and switches to manage plant equipment. Key duties include responding to alarms or operational problems both within plant property and at remote locations, taking corrective action based on established procedures or supervisor direction. The position also requires cleaning plant equipment and facilities to maintain a safe working environment. Frequently, the operator will be required to operate heavy machinery such as a forklift, Bobcat, front end loader, sweeper, scum truck, and/or pick-up truck. Additional responsibilities include collecting samples, performing standard tests, recording results, and notifying supervisors of any abnormal readings. The Operator I will assist other operators and plant staff with cleaning, maintaining, repairing, and installing plant equipment. Handling hazardous material deliveries and completing the appropriate paperwork is also part of the role. The position may require driving a facility vehicle on or off-site. This is a medium work role, requiring the exertion of up to 50 lbs. of force occasionally and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or G.E.D. as required and authorized by Chapter 42-17 of the RI General Laws (RIGL) of 1956, as amended, Rhode Island Code of Regulations 250-RICR-150-10-5.6 C, and other applicable laws.
  • Performance in basic maintenance.
  • Following Instructions.
  • Communication, interpersonal skills as applied to interaction with coworkers, supervisors, the general public, etc. sufficient to exchange or convey information and to receive work direction.
  • Cleaning and sanitation principles and practices.
  • Within one year of employment, you must possess an Operator-in-Training (OIT) Grade I certification license for wastewater treatment plants.
  • A valid driver’s license in good standing is required at time of hire.

Responsibilities

  • Assists other operators and plant staff with cleaning, maintaining, repairing, and installing plant equipment.
  • Receives hazardous materials (chemical deliveries) and completes appropriate paperwork.
  • Performs other duties of a similar nature or level.
  • As required, to drive a facility vehicle on or off site.
