We use our own locomotives and employees to safely move railcars within industrial, manufacturing, and production plants. Beyond railcar switching, we also provide services including railcar loading/unloading, track maintenance, inspection, and repair. The Role This position is responsible for operating locomotives; interpreting train orders, signals, and rules; transporting freight; and ensuring timely, correct switching and placement of railcars.
Requirements
- High School diploma or equivalent required.
- Dependable, punctual, and reliable transportation required.
- Strong communication and active listening skills.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks effectively.
- Works well as part of a team.
Nice To Haves
- Military experience helpful.
Responsibilities
- Inspect locomotives before operating.
- Operate throttle and airbrakes in response to signals.
- Interpret train orders, signals, and rules to operate safely and on schedule.
- Assist crew leader with training new employees.
- Observe track conditions for obstructions.
- Prepare reports for accidents, stops, or delays.
- Lubricate moving parts of the locomotive.
- Handle train equipment safely (brakes, switches, derails, gates).
- Control movement of equipment by radio, hand, or lantern signals.
- Apply and release hand brakes.
- Handle air hoses, wheel chocks, and coupling/uncoupling of railcars.
- Wear required personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Perform other duties as assigned.
