About The Position

Responsible for implementing and further developing Dover Chemical’s production training program for all hourly operations personnel to increase operational efficiency, decrease accidents, injuries and environmental releases. This includes new hires as well as employees that move to new operational areas via bid process. This also includes new management production employees including managers and engineers to give them a better understanding of processes and their chemistries as well as historical production issues that may be encountered and prior solutions. This includes both classroom and field instruction on equipment types, materials of construction, raw materials and finished goods hazards, production processes and potential hazards. Responsible for procedure writing training as well as updated and creating new operating procedures that meet PSM standard when time allows. Responsible for creating and editing production process Visio drawings.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree Chemical Engineering preferred and/or Mechanical Engineering or Chemistry.
  • 7-10 years of chemical manufacturing industry experience with a strong working knowledge of all elements of manufacturing systems (preferably in a Dover Chemical chemical facility).
  • Experience with production equipment such as pumps, valves, exchangers, condensers, vacuum pumps, distillation columns, etc.
  • Experience with different materials of construction for production processes and their limitations
  • Experience working at a PSM site.
  • Knowledge of State/Federal EPA and OSHA compliance requirements specific for Dover Chemical.
  • PSM / PHA knowledge required.
  • Experience working in a diverse team environment including interactions with technical staff, administrative staff, business team leaders and contract personnel.
  • Effectively communicate both orally and in writing; present complex topics in a concise manner.
  • Strong interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to understand precise production process chemistries at Dover production units.
  • Basic understanding of Control Systems and the ability to orally detail how these systems work.
  • Some travel required.
  • Ability to write production procedures in a concise and detailed format that meets PSM standards.
  • Critical thinking ability to develop and update process Consequences of Deviations as part of operating procedures, while working with process engineer or manager.
  • Ability to utilize Microsoft Visio in order to create precise blueprints of production units that are used by production personnel in place of P&IDs in the plant for procedure writing, training and lock-out tag-out precision.
  • Intimate knowledge of Dover Chemical processes’ chemistries and their hazards to be able to orally discuss them with new hourly personnel to a new production unit.
  • Intimate knowledge of process equipment to be able to orally and visually (with use of videos) describe how they operate to new employees, including differing materials on constructions types. This includes both classroom and field descriptions.
  • Knowledge of Dover’s different production process units, their operating parameters and chemistries, their hazards and any computer interlocks to be able to describe and test hourly employees before they sign off to be able to operate at unit.
  • Ability to walk down an operating system, draw it by hand with pencil and paper in field, and convert this to a digital Visio drawing to assist in developing operating procedures, training and everyday production operations, including Lockout Tagout.
  • Ability to work with production managers and engineers to assist in trouble-shooting production issues.
  • Knowledge of Dover Chemical’s PSM and EHS policies and programs for training.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with both batch and continuous operations are desirable.
  • Proven experience and effectiveness managing union hourly work force a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for developing a new training program for all hourly operations personnel to increase operational efficiency, decrease accidents, injuries and environmental releases.
  • Responsible for drawing detailed PFD blueprint drawings (Visio) of each production process system at Dover to be used by operations personnel for training and Lock Out Tag Out functions.
  • Train both production management and hourly work force over each Visio drawing so they understand how process systems operate.
  • Responsible for writing operating procedures based on PSM standards for production processes.
  • These include multiple procedure types: (Normal Start-Up, Normal Operations, Normal Shutdown, Emergency Shutdown, Start-Up following Emergency Shutdown, Shutdown for Maintenance Turnaround and Start Up following a Turnaround
  • Train process engineers on how to edit these procedures and PFD blueprints when process changes occur.
  • Responsible for writing Consequences of Deviation tables for all production processes’ parameters.
  • Responsible for training other production managers and engineers on PSM procedure writing, Consequences of Deviation development and how to devise a Visio drawing.
