About The Position

The Operations Superintendent is responsible for ensuring the safe, reliable, and efficient operation, sustainment, and testing of manual and autonomous heavy machinery across ASI proving grounds, customer sites, and fielding locations. This role provides hands-on operational leadership, overseeing day-to-day vehicle operations while developing and enforcing safety, training, certification, and compliance protocols. The Operations Superintendent supervises test operators and field technicians, coordinates fleet maintenance and logistics, manages test track infrastructure, and partners closely with engineering and test teams to ensure systems are safe, operationally effective, and ready for customer deployment. This position requires deep heavy equipment expertise, strong operational judgment, risk management capability, and a passion for mentoring and building high-performing teams in complex test and field environments.

Requirements

  • 10+ years of experience operating a variety of heavy equipment
  • 3+ years of leadership or supervisory experience overseeing technical or operational staff
  • Strong understanding of industrial safety protocols and compliance within environments such as agriculture, construction, mining, manufacturing, energy, military, logistics, or similar heavy equipment industries
  • OSHA 10 certification required (OSHA 30 preferred or willingness to obtain)
  • Demonstrated experience in fleet management, maintenance coordination, and operational readiness
  • Ability to perform minor maintenance, retrofits, and troubleshooting
  • Experience instructing, coaching, or formally training others in equipment operations
  • Experience supporting quality assurance or system validation efforts (familiarity with tools such as Jira, JAMA, or similar preferred)
  • Basic computer proficiency and ability to learn ASI command-and-control systems (e.g., Mobius)
  • Strong communication, analytical judgment, organizational, and leadership skills
  • Traverse indoor and outdoor environments for extended periods (6-10 hours per day)
  • Enter and exit heavy equipment multiple times per shift
  • Frequently bend, stoop, crouch, and reach to inspect and service equipment
  • Work safely in varied weather conditions and uneven terrain
  • Use laptops and mobile devices for documentation and reporting
  • Detect and respond to operational and environmental safety risks

Responsibilities

  • Supervise daily operation of manual, tele-operated, semi-autonomous, and autonomous heavy equipment at ASI proving grounds and select customer sites
  • Lead, mentor, and develop a team of test operators, technicians, and support personnel
  • Foster a culture of safety, accountability, professionalism, and continuous improvement
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with engineering, verification, and program teams to support testing and deployment goals
  • Develop, implement, and enforce operational and safety protocols
  • Ensure compliance with OSHA, industry standards, and site-specific safety requirements
  • Train and certify team members in heavy equipment operations, test track safety, inspections, and operational readiness
  • Audit training records, certifications, safety practices, and inspection processes; correct deficiencies as needed
  • Coordinate and schedule test execution, maintenance, and resource allocation
  • Manage and maintain test tracks, safety features, fleet assets, and supporting infrastructure
  • Support test planning, execution, data collection, and reporting activities
  • Ensure operational readiness of vehicles and systems prior to testing and field deployment
  • Oversee fleet management, inspections, preventative maintenance, minor repairs, retrofits, and troubleshooting
  • Coordinate logistics for ASI vehicles and support equipment
  • Ensure vehicles and systems are properly configured and maintained for testing and customer fielding
  • Develop fielding plans for new hardware and software systems
  • Lead teams in testing, training, deploying, and stabilizing systems at customer and stakeholder sites
  • Support customer acceptance, operational transition, and post-deployment stabilization
  • Represent ASI professionally in field environments and high-visibility deployments
