About The Position

Assist the Site Operations Manager (SOM) with daily and strategic management of plant functions and provide leadership in areas including operations, safety, and environmental compliance. Provides direct management oversight for all Production, Maintenance and Quality activities at the site Responsible for creating metrics in conjunction with the SOM, setting expectations and driving accountability to achieve metrics in areas including company assets, budgeting, quality control, cost control and savings measures, environmental and personnel functions. Drive the development and implementation of continuous improvement projects consistent with and in support of the sites strategic plan and business operating plan. Ensure open communication throughout the organization by keeping site, regional, and local leadership informed of the status of production, maintenance and quality activities to ensure customer supply coordination on a local and regional level Responsible for compliance with regulatory requirements, Carmeuse systems, and direct interface with regulatory agencies Ensure the execution of the daily production plan, identify challenges and opportunities, and manage performance to the same. Successful management of assigned employees and efficiencies reached by his/her team members to resolve barriers and optimize processes, regulatory compliance, spending, and customer satisfaction Understand and follow the collective agreement, participate in the grievance process with the support of the Site Manager & Human Resources. Support a positive union/management relationship at the site along with Managers and Supervisors. Support our zero-injury culture and monitor effectiveness of initiatives Contribute to the formulation of business plans and budgets with the SOM, and the achievement of approved goals and objectives Provides input and feedback to key leadership positions about process improvement opportunities. Participate in developing strategies, planning, and execution in partnership with key leadership. Support development and ensure implementation of training programs to ensure effectiveness and growth of employees Oversees all plant operations during SOM’s absence Works closely with the SOM to develop their own skillsets to build bench-strength for the backfill of this critical role. The Operations Superintendent has direct responsibility for the Production, Maintenance and Quality departments to achieve agreed goals and metrics

Requirements

  • Qualified candidates will have a Bachelor of Science Degree in Engineering, Mining, Business or related field
  • Minimum 3+ experience progressive experience in mining or heavy engineering industry
  • Minimum of 3+ years managerial experience with increasing responsibility
  • Outstanding judgment and business skills, with the ability to establish a strong rapport with senior management
  • Demonstrated ability to take initiative, strong organization and prioritization skills; detail & process oriented with strong problem resolution abilities
  • Understanding of basic workings of plant equipment – mechanical/electrical exposure
  • Fluency in spoken and written English
  • Knowledge of operational management
  • People management skills
  • Strong knowledge of Carmeuse policies, processes, and procedures
  • Knowledge of continuous manufacturing business sector
  • Technical creditability as it relates to industry, with a preference on mining and kilns
  • Establish strong team environment within the site
  • Demonstrate knowledge of business acumen by building appropriate aspects of the business plans, budgets, and achieves goals and objectives
  • Ability to manage operational systems while providing oversight to various activities within the region
  • Ability to build and maintain positive and responsive interpersonal relationships within the organization and externally
