About The Position

JES Tech is seeking an Operations Pool (Ops Pool) team member to support the Human Health and Performance Contract at NASA Johnson Space Center (JSC) in Houston, TX. Our mission is to safeguard astronaut health, ensure optimal human performance, and advance technologies for human space exploration. We are a team of innovators, scientists, and explorers united by one goal: to improve the world responsibly and safely. This Operations Pool (Ops Pool) position supports spaceflight analog missions conducted at JSC. These missions simulate deep space exploration to study human performance, operational readiness, and mission resilience. Ops Pool team members staff the Mission Control Center (MCC) to provide real-time console support during missions and assist with pre- and post-mission activities. This role supports the Research Operations and Integration (ROI) element within NASA’s Human Research Program (HRP), under the Human Health and Performance Contract (HHPC2), supporting NASA’s Space Medicine Operations Division. This is a part-time, as-needed position based on mission schedules. Work hours will vary and may include evenings, overnight shifts, weekends, and holidays during mission operations.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Science or a closely related field.
  • For candidates without a bachelor’s degree, a minimum of one year of relevant console support experience may be considered.
  • Experience working with biomedical hardware and/or scientific operations.
  • Demonstrated ability to solve complex problems and develop timely solutions in dynamic environments.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated problem-solving ability.
  • Ability to work various shifts, including evenings, nights, and weekends.
  • Basic computer proficiency.
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain NASA badge access.
  • Must be able to work extended shifts during mission operations.
  • Must be able to lift up to 25 lbs to support pre- and post-mission activities.

Nice To Haves

  • Ability to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
  • Basic knowledge of setting up and troubleshooting audiovisual (AV) systems.
  • Familiarity with computer IT interfaces and peripheral systems.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as a console operator and primary point-of-contact for real-time voice communications with the crew.
  • Coordinate crew communications related to science and operational activities.
  • Monitor habitat facility status and assess impacts to mission operations.
  • Identify and coordinate resolution of operational safety concerns and off-nominal situations (ONS).
  • Coordinate with on-call personnel to resolve facility or operational issues.
  • Monitor timeline execution and contribute to Daily Status Reports.
  • Support mission day planning and re-planning activities.
  • Monitor experiment and operational activities for impacts to timeline and stressor plans.
  • Coordinate anomaly resolution with Operations Leads, Mission Leads, and Mission Scientists.
  • Maintain accurate logs of all mission timeline activities and off-nominal events.
  • Successfully complete the Ground Support Personnel (GSP) training program.
  • Support pre- and post-mission activities, including crew training support and mission readiness tasks (e.g., preparing mission consumable kits and assisting with operational setup/closeout activities).
  • Activate on-call personnel as required during mission operations.
