About The Position

Howmet Fastening Systems (HFS) is seeking an Operations Manager in our Carson, California location. HFS is a business unit of Howmet Aerospace, headquartered in Torrance, California. We hold the number one global position in aerospace fastening systems, and we’re the North American leader in commercial transportation fasteners. Our high-tech, multi-material fastening systems are found nose to tail on aircraft and aerospace engines. Our products are also critical components of industrial gas turbines, automobiles, commercial transportation vehicles, and construction and industrial equipment. General Summary: Responsible for directing manufacturing teams in obtaining efficient operation of the manufacturing activities. Maintains a customer focus (quality and on-time delivery are priorities.) Directs and supervises activities of Manufacturing Managers, Production Supervisors, Manufacturing Engineers, Leads and Operators. Leads by example a commitment to employee involvement, participative management, and continuous improvement. Specific Responsibilities: Develops and maintains manufacturing operations business plans to include all program requirements, labor hours, cycle, production costs, and image. Provides input to the development of product strategy and research and development of new and emerging products. Establishes production and quality control standards, develops budget and cost controls, and obtains data regarding types, quantities, specifications, and delivery dates of products ordered. Provides guidance to the development of a manufacturing process plan, including personnel requirements, material needs, subcontract requirements, facility needs, and tooling and equipment needs. Ensures all established costs, quality, and delivery commitments are met. Coordinates manufacturing activities with all other functions of the organization and suppliers to obtain optimum production and utilization of human resources, machines, and equipment. Reviews production and operating reports and directs the resolution of operational, manufacturing, and maintenance problems to ensure minimum costs and prevent operational delays. Performs administrative activities associated with the effective management of shop operations, including compiling, storing, and retrieving production data for reports. Determines responsibilities of assigned organization and staff positions to accomplish business objectives. Serve as subject matter experts to senior business leaders enabling project advancement through interaction across multi-level and functions. Leads team to achieve monthly, quarterly, and annual performance goals. Implements company policies such as attendance, overtime, safety, environmental, etc., and directs the application of such policies to the product group's operation. Trains and ensures all assigned employees are aware of and comply with company, government, and customer policies, procedures, and regulations.

Requirements

  • Minimum Eight (8) years of experience in Aerospace manufacturing work environment, which has provided a working knowledge of lean manufacturing and rapid improvement techniques.
  • Bachelor's Degree from accredited institution
  • Proficient with computer systems and programs (MS-Word, MS-Excel, MS-PowerPoint, querying databases, ERP systems. etc.)
  • Minimum of 5 years as a demonstrated operations leader
  • Employees must be legally authorized to work in the United States.

Nice To Haves

  • Prefer the Bachelor’s Degree emphasis is in Engineering or Business specialization
  • Experience working in a complex manufacturing facility preferred
  • Experience in the Fastener manufacturing industry preferred.
