About The Position

This position is responsible for organizing, coordinating, and directing major functions and activities related to the overall Implementation of programs, services and projects of the Senior Services program and the overall operation of the senior center. The employee in this class supervises Senior Center staff and volunteers. The Deputy Director, Senior Services assigns work in terms of general Instructions. Completed work Is reviewed for accuracy and the nature and propriety of the final results.

Requirements

Bachelor's degree in gerontology, social work, human services, business administration or a related field
Five (5) years progressively responsible experience in senior services or closely related experience
OR have a combination of education, training and work experience that is equivalent to #1 and #2 above that provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job.
Valid State of Georgia driver's license.
Valid certifications in CPR, First Aid, Defensive Driving, Serv Safe and CACTS (or obtain within first 90 days of employment)
Eligibility to work with elders in the state of Georgia evidenced through the federal digital fingerprint background check (conducted as required by OHS regulations)
Knowledge of the philosophy, objectives, methods, techniques, and administration of a multipurpose program offering services to the senior age group.
Knowledge of theories, practices and procedures used in the human services field, with emphasis in gerontology.
Knowledge of the Older Americans Act.
Knowledge of public relations practices and principles.
Knowledge of County and facility policies and procedures.
Skill in use of Microsoft Office programs including utilizing Word processing, Email, Teams, and Excel spreadsheet software applications .
Skill in using independent judgment and discretion.
Ability to supervise others and apply county policies.
Ability to research, organize and promote new and innovative programs and services.
Ability to work within budgets and track spending.
Ability to assemble Information and compose written reports and documents in a concise, clear, and effective manner.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, seniors and their families/caregivers, community organizations, service representatives and the general public.
Ability to communicate effectively.
Ability to remain seated for extended periods of time.
Ability to lift more than 20 pounds, unassisted.
Ability to smell, hear, touch, taste, speak and see Including color, depth, and texture perception.
Ability to operate a motor vehicle including multi-passenger in a safe manner.

Nice To Haves

Responsibilities

Serves as point of contact for the Division when Deputy Director is not available. Serves as number two In Division chain of command.
Assists the Deputy Director In the preparation of the division's annual plan to Include estimated costs and new or expanding programs and services.
Manages the operations for the senior center; plans, Implements and evaluates monthly programs to meet contract requirements; assigns, supervises, evaluates duties, and trains staff; resolves complaints; develops and coordinates the nutrition program in conjunction with the Food Service Manager; and ensures that the Center meets all health department, fire code and ARC/DAS requirements.
Completes Center monthly reports and maintains records. Assists in the completion of annual client satisfaction surveys.
Provides technical assistance to senior groups within the Center.
Supervises personnel Including Food Service Manager, Wellness Coordinator, Kinship Care Coordinator and Driver/Center Aides.
Works with Transportation Manager to coordinate group transportation.
Performs client intake and works with Administrative Manager to coordinate membership registration.
Coordinates special projects such as out of town trips, annual Senior Games, arts and crafts, exercise classes, enrichment opportunities, ceramics, athletics, and other leisure activities.
Oversees implementation of senior/community-based classes including recruiting instructors, collecting instructor eligibility documents, maintaining attendance records, and promoting classes.
Responsible for outreach contacts being made to get residents 60+ Involved in programs and services; prepares calendars and special event publications for county distribution; (as applicable) maintains and advertises virtual activities/educational opportunities for seniors who cannot attend in-person activities.
Serves on County safety committee as Senior Services representative and distributes Information to staff as applicable.
Participates in and attends trainings as assigned. Participates in ARC Center Manager meetings and trainings.
Operates county vehicles Including multi-passenger vehicles in a safe manner.
