About The Position

Consider joining Metal Exchange as an Operations and Logistics Coordinator at our St. Louis, MO location. The Operations and Logistics Coordinator will be responsible for executing the transportation, customer service, contract administration, processing, and inventory management elements of the Rolled Products business unit. This role functions in a fast-paced, demanding environment to ensure business unit objectives and customer requirements are met or exceeded. Excellent communication, organizational skills, time management, and attention to detail are essential to be successful in this position.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent transportation and customer service experience
  • 2-4 years in a Logistics, Transportation, Fleet or Customer Service environment
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook, and Teams for document management, email communication, calendar coordination, and cross‑functional collaboration.
  • Strong customer focus with the ability to understand customer needs, communicate professionally, and maintain positive working relationships.
  • Effective interpersonal and communication skills, including clear, concise verbal and written communication and strong active listening.
  • Strong organizational and time‑management skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities, meet deadlines, and adapt to changing business needs.
  • Results‑oriented mindset with the initiative to take ownership, follow through on commitments, and drive tasks to completion.
  • Proven problem‑solving skills, including the ability to analyze issues, identify root causes, and implement practical solutions.
  • Basic understanding of transportation and logistics concepts, with a willingness to expand knowledge and functional expertise.
  • Must be able to pass a pre‑employment drug screen, background check, and assessment.
  • Must be legally eligible to work in the United States; visa sponsorship is not available.
  • Must have regular attendance and be available to work on-site in our St. Louis, MO office.

Responsibilities

  • Execute end‑to‑end shipment coordination from dispatch through delivery, ensuring compliance with customer service requirements.
  • Monitor shipment execution, proactively resolve delays, rejections, claims, and other exceptions, and ensure timely resolution to minimize service disruption.
  • Maintain productive working relationships with carriers and processors; track performance, request lane rates, and negotiate competitive transportation and processing rates.
  • Prepare, process, and distribute all shipping and transportation documentation required for cargo movement, contract execution, and customer compliance.
  • Accrue shipping and processing costs, settle shipments and contracts, and coordinate closely with Accounting, Credit, and Risk to ensure accurate financial execution and adherence to credit limits.
  • Provide consistent, timely communication with customers, Sales, suppliers, processors, warehouses, and carriers to support accurate order execution and customer satisfaction.
  • Serve as a key coordination point between Sales, Logistics, Accounting, and external partners to ensure visibility into shipment status and issue resolution.
  • Apply strong customer service skills to build and sustain productive, long‑term relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Initiate and manage claims for rejected or non‑conforming material through resolution, ensuring clear documentation and follow‑
  • Support conversion activity by coordinating processing requirements and assisting with processing quotes for value‑added and conversion orders.
  • Execute end‑to‑end processing for value-added customer orders, including order entry, credit approval initiation, scheduling of processing and pickup, inventory receipt, metal conversion, documentation management, and approval of processor invoices for payment.
  • Maintain and reconcile inventory records across trading systems and shared reporting tools, including open order reports, processor databases, and vendor‑managed inventory programs.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
