About The Position

The Operations and Custodial Coordinator serves the church body by ensuring that the facilities of Severns Valley Baptist Church are clean, well-maintained, and operationally ready for ministry. This role combines hands-on custodial care with coordination of facility operations, event setups, and vendor relationships.   • Membership at Severns Valley Baptist Church (or willingness to join).
  • Experience in custodial work, building maintenance, or facility management preferred.
  • Basic knowledge of cleaning methods, equipment, and supplies.
  • Familiarity with minor building maintenance tasks (plumbing, electrical, HVAC basics).
  • Ability to operate cleaning equipment such as floor buffers, carpet extractors, and power washers.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities.
  • Effective communication skills for coordinating with staff, volunteers, and vendors.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and perform physical tasks including standing, bending, climbing ladders, and working in various weather conditions.
  • Must pass criminal and background checks.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain the cleanliness and appearance of all church facilities including the Worship Center, Fellowship Hall, classrooms, offices, restrooms, hallways, and common areas.
  • Perform routine cleaning tasks including vacuuming, mopping, dusting, sanitizing restrooms, emptying trash, and cleaning windows.
  • Conduct deep cleaning of facilities on a scheduled basis, including carpet cleaning, floor waxing, and power washing exterior areas as needed.
  • Monitor and restock supplies in restrooms, kitchens, and cleaning closets.
  • Maintain an inventory of custodial supplies and coordinate purchasing with the Property Operations Manager.
  • Ensure all areas are clean and prepared before and after weekend services, midweek activities, and special events.
  • Respond promptly to cleaning emergencies and unexpected facility needs.
  • Coordinate room setups and teardowns for weekly services, ministry events, funerals, weddings, and other facility uses.
  • Perform or coordinate minor building maintenance tasks including changing light bulbs, basic plumbing repairs, painting touch-ups, and HVAC filter changes.
  • Conduct regular facility inspections to identify maintenance needs, safety concerns, or repair issues. Communicate findings to the Property Operations Manager.
  • Serve as a point of contact for outside vendors, contractors, and service providers for building maintenance, pest control, landscaping, and equipment servicing.
  • Assist with maintaining the grounds including seasonal tasks such as mowing coordination, snow/ice preparation, and exterior upkeep.
  • Help manage the facility use calendar in coordination with the church office to ensure spaces are properly prepared for scheduled activities.
  • Oversee security-related tasks including locking and unlocking the building, monitoring alarm systems, and ensuring all doors and entry points are secured.
  • Maintain and organize storage areas, mechanical rooms, and custodial closets.
  • Work collaboratively with church staff and volunteers, serving with a spirit of humility and teamwork.
  • Attend staff meetings as requested to stay informed about upcoming events and facility needs.
  • Communicate proactively with the Property Operations Manager regarding facility conditions, project updates, and supply needs.
  • Identify and equip volunteers who can assist with facility care tasks as needed.
  • All other duties as assigned.
