What impact you’ll make As the Operations Excellence Leader for Metem in Parsippany, NJ, you will be responsible for driving world-class performance across the manufacturing facility, with a primary focus on Safety, Quality, Delivery, and Cost (SQDC)—in that order. This role leads continuous improvement initiatives, builds a strong performance culture, and partners with operations, engineering, quality, and materials teams to ensure safe, reliable, and efficient manufacturing operations. The ideal candidate is a hands-on leader who uses data, structured problem-solving, and lean principles to deliver sustainable results while developing people and strengthening standard work.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Operations, Manufacturing, or related field (preferred).
  • 2+ years of experience in manufacturing operations, continuous improvement, or operational excellence.

Nice To Haves

  • Lean, Six Sigma, or similar certification.

  • Strong working knowledge of lean manufacturing and structured problem-solving methodologies.

Responsibilities

  • Champion a zero-injury culture and ensure safety is never compromised for production or cost.
  • Lead and support safety risk assessments, incident investigations, and corrective actions.
  • Drive proactive safety programs, including behavior-based safety, near-miss reporting, and hazard elimination, and Built In Safety daily management.
  • Ensure compliance with all regulatory, corporate, and site-specific safety requirements.
  • Coach leaders and operators on safe work practices and safety leadership behaviors.
  • Lead initiatives to improve product and process quality, first-pass yield performance, and defect reduction (work towards Zero-Defect culture).
  • Support 4D and 8D root cause analysis (e.g., A3, 5-Why, Fishbone) for internal and customer quality issues.
  • Strengthen process control, standard work, and error-proofing (poka-yoke).
  • Partner with Quality and Engineering to ensure robust process capability and continuous improvement.
  • Improve on-time delivery performance by stabilizing and optimizing manufacturing processes.
  • Identify and eliminate constraints, bottlenecks, and sources of variation affecting throughput.
  • Support production planning, scheduling, and flow improvements (single piece flow) to meet customer demand.
  • Drive daily management systems that highlight delivery risks and enable fast problem resolution.
  • Deploy and sustain lean manufacturing principles (e.g., 5S, Kaizen, Value Stream Mapping, SMED, TPM).
  • Lead cross-functional improvement projects aligned with site and business objectives.
  • Establish and maintain visual management, KPIs, and daily tiered accountability processes.
  • Coach and develop leaders and teams in problem-solving and continuous improvement capabilities.
  • Ensure improvements are standardized, sustained, and audited over time.
  • Lead waste elimination efforts across labor, materials, scrap, and rework.
  • Drive productivity improvements through lean manufacturing, standard work, and overall equipment effectiveness (OEE).
  • Support cost-reduction initiatives while ensuring safety and quality are not compromised.
  • Track and validate financial benefits from improvement projects.
