About The Position

The Operating Room Equipment Coordinator at Memorial Hermann is responsible for assisting with the management of activities within the assigned OR Department. This role involves troubleshooting and moving various types of equipment within the operating room suites, organizing supply rooms, and ensuring equipment is maintained for proper operating efficiency. The coordinator assesses needs for repair/replacement or preventative maintenance and coordinates schedules with in-house departments, contractors, and vendors. Additionally, the position monitors equipment performance for trends and higher-than-average failure rates. The coordinator also assists the OR Environment/Holding Area Clinical Manager with planning, organizing, scheduling workload, and making daily work assignments. This includes providing daily performance feedback to employees, giving input into performance appraisals, conducting quality inspections, participating in interviews, and supervising employee training. The role also involves inspecting the physical condition of the facility, assisting with patient preparation, transporting patients, functioning as a porter for medical supplies, information, specimens, and products, and collaborating with the Holding Area Nurse for staffing resources. The coordinator is expected to ensure safe care, adhere to policies, and promote professional growth.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Familiarity with daily operations that take place in the Operating Room.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Demonstrated ability and willingness to take initiative.
  • Ability to perform duties requiring standing, walking, stooping, bending and lifting up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to read and write and perform duties following oral and written instruction.
  • Ability to work various shifts for extended periods as determined by the director.

Nice To Haves

Responsibilities

  • Troubleshoot various equipment types.
  • Move various equipment around the OR and operating room suites.
  • Organize the Supply Room.
  • Maintain equipment to ensure proper operating efficiency, assessing need for repair/replacement or routine preventative maintenance.
  • Coordinate repair and maintenance schedules with in-house departments, outside contractors, and/or vendors to ensure availability of equipment.
  • Monitor equipment performance for higher-than-average failure rates or other trends.
  • Assist the OR Environment/Holding Area Clinical Manager with planning, organizing, scheduling department workload, and making daily work assignments.
  • Assist the OR Environment/Holding Area Clinical Manager with managing departmental employees, including providing daily performance feedback and giving input into performance appraisals.
  • Conduct quality inspections.
  • Participate in interviews and supervise employee training processes.
  • Inspect physical condition of facility and take appropriate corrective actions.
  • Assist with physical preparation of patient and physical environment according to the age/needs of the patient/population served.
  • Transport and transfer patients as necessary.
  • Function as a porter between departments, ensuring required medical supplies, information, specimens, and products are delivered in a timely fashion.
  • Collaborate with the Holding Area Nurse to provide staffing resources to the Holding Area.
  • Ensure safe care to patients, staff and visitors; adhere to all Memorial Hermann policies, procedures, and standards within budgetary specifications including time management, supply management, productivity and quality of service.
  • Promote individual professional growth and development by meeting requirements for mandatory/continuing education and skills competency; support department-based goals.
  • Serve as preceptor, mentor and resource to less experienced staff.
