About The Position

The ongoing revolution in computing and sensing is not only changing how we build—it is transforming what it means to be a civil engineer. We are seeking a forward-thinking faculty colleague to lead this charge through computing-driven research and high-impact teaching that prepares students for this emergent future. Areas of interest include, but are not limited to: Digital twin modeling and simulation AI in the design and management of environmental and/or civil infrastructure systems Advanced sensing in hydrology and ecosystem monitoring Robotics in civil engineering Theoretical and applied integrations of AI in environmental and/or infrastructure systems In this role, the candidate will be joining an ecosystem designed for transdisciplinary collaboration and translation. They will have the unique opportunity to: Collaborate across boundaries through transdisciplinary organizations like the Institute for Digital Innovation and the Institute for a Sustainable Earth. Translate research into reality at our newly opened Fuse at Mason Square, a state-of-the-art hub dedicated to university-industry partnerships. Directly influence our profession through our strategic location in the DC Metro area.

Requirements

  • Applicants must have received a PhD in Civil Engineering or a closely related field by the start date of the position
  • Have demonstrated potential for excellence and productivity in research, and a commitment to high-quality teaching
  • Applicants must be able to teach graduate and undergraduate courses in one of the following areas, ideally integrating their expertise into curricula: Hydrology and water resources; Structural and materials engineering; Construction and infrastructure management; and Environmental engineering.

  • A demonstrated ability to collaborate across disciplines in engineering, computing, and humanities is desirable
