About The Position

The Department of Dental Hygiene seeks a full-time non-tenure Open Rank Professor (General Dentist) and Clinic Coordinator. This position serves as a key faculty member within the University of Tennessee Health Science Center College of Dentistry, focusing on the education, clinical training, and professional development of dental hygiene students. This role combines academic teaching with clinical coordination to ensure high-quality patient care and student learning experiences.

Requirements

  • DDS or DMD or equivalent degree.
  • Eligibility for Tennessee Dental License or teaching license.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver didactic, pre-clinical, and clinical instruction in Dental Hygiene and related areas.
  • Develop and implement innovative teaching strategies to enhance student engagement and competency.
  • Collaborate with faculty to integrate evidence-based practices into the curriculum.
  • Oversee daily operations of the Dental Hygiene clinic, ensuring compliance with institutional and regulatory standards.
  • Supervise and mentor students during clinical sessions, guiding diagnostic, preventive, and therapeutic procedures.
  • Coordinate patient scheduling, quality assurance, and infection control protocols.
  • Serve as the supervising dentist for dental hygiene students, providing clinical oversight and support.
  • Work closely with faculty across various dental disciplines to promote integrated care models.
  • Participate in faculty committees, accreditation processes, and strategic planning initiatives.
  • Engage in community outreach programs to advance oral health education and access to care.
  • Contribute to research initiatives related to dental hygiene education and clinical practice.
  • Mentor students and junior faculty in scholarly projects, publications, and presentations.
  • Stay current on emerging trends and technologies in dental hygiene and dentistry.
  • Direct supervision of dental hygiene students in clinical settings.
  • Provide mentorship and guidance to faculty and staff involved in the Dental Hygiene program.
