We offer flexible schedules and remote opportunities Operating with a high degree of autonomy, this senior Business Development role leads the planning, execution, and management of strategic client and partner relationships within MERIT’s Oncology Division. The position owns assigned sales programs and initiatives, including conference strategy, targeted outreach, and account development activities, with accountability for achieving quarterly and annual revenue objectives. The role is responsible for identifying, qualifying, and advancing complex opportunities from early engagement through close, serving as the primary point of contact for designated accounts within a defined therapeutic area or disease focus. It establishes and sustains long-term relationships with business and clinical leaders at pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies. In close collaboration with medical, operations, and scientific teams, the role ensures MERIT’s services are positioned and utilized effectively to meet study objectives. In addition, this role mentors and supports junior business development associates, contributing to skill development and best-practice sharing with the oncology commercial team.

Requirements

  • A Life Science/ Business Bachelor's or a Master's Degree
  • Minimum 6 years of prior relevant sales/business development experience
  • Preferably relevant experience with a Contract Research Organization
  • Working knowledge of CT, MR, and PET imaging modalities
  • Enjoy meeting new people and establishing business relationships
  • An ability to cultivate and maintain effective internal and external relationships.
  • Strong interpersonal and organizational skills, excellent attention to detail, ability to follow direction, assess Company needs and work independently. Computer skills to include proficiency in Microsoft Office software and ability to learn Company specific software. Must be able to project a professional attitude and image appropriate for the work environment.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or government regulations.
  • Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
  • Ability to participate and contribute in a team environment as a team member or in a leadership role. Oral and written communication is clear, concise, and effective.
  • Ability to maintain neutral approach when resolving conflicts and utilize the Human Resources area as a resource.

Responsibilities

  • Secure and retain business through professional, consultative, and proactive sales of clinical trial services directed at decision-makers and decision influencers at sponsors currently working in the emerging biopharma space (clinical study phases I-IV) & Real-world evidence
  • Hunt for new business from potential customer companies within the small to midsized biopharma space using a variety of business intelligence, social media, and CRM tools
  • Meet lead generation and conversion quotas in targeted geo-regions identify targets that will grow Oncology’s RFP pipeline and identify and match EXCELSIOR solutions with potential client challenges and needs
  • Actively prospect and leverage potential new business opportunities within specified customer account(s)
  • Cultivate strong, long-term relationships with key decision-makers within Account and develop in-depth knowledge of the customer organization.
  • Maintain general knowledge of MERIT’s services for appropriate cross-sell opportunities
  • Pursue awareness of competitive activities, positioning, and pricing, which includes specific reasons for awards and non-awards
  • Analyze potential opportunities and develop sales plans for each target account. Ensure appropriate strategy/solution is proposed to customer. Monitor actions and results against plans
  • Develop proposals, support bid-defense preparation and delivery
  • Handle follow-up related to the sale and drive completion of contractual documents
  • Adapt successful strategies and tactics to meet market demands and financial targets
  • Maintain high visibility within customer organization. Monitor customer satisfaction by communicating regularly with customer
  • Plan and coordinate all customer sales activities in assigned geo-regions
  • Record all customer sales-related activities
  • Prepare sales activity report for Management as required
  • Mentoring of BD Associates
  • Performs other duties as assigned
