The On-Demand Ride (ODR) Driver is responsible for providing safe, courteous, and timely transportation for Liberty University students, faculty, staff, and visitors across campus and designated off-campus locations. This student worker role supports the Transit Department in daily operations and assists other departments within Facilities Planning & Management during academic breaks or summer months. The role emphasizes safety, customer service, professionalism, and adaptability in a dynamic university environment. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES Operate vehicles safely in various weather and traffic conditions, following all university and state safety protocols. Provide friendly and professional customer service to all riders, including students, faculty, staff, and guests. Maintain real-time communication using two-way radio and iPad-based routing systems (e.g., On-Demand Ride app). Assist passengers with disabilities and safely secure mobility devices. Conduct pre- and post-trip inspections to ensure vehicles are safe, clean, and in good working condition. As essential personnel: you are expected to be available in the event of school closings, delays, shutdowns, and any emergencies including clean up required because of severe weather incidents. Performs snow removal activities as assigned. Such as shoveling, salting, etc. Facilities Management Division employees are essential to the overall success of Liberty University and its day-to-day functions, especially during ongoing campus events such as Winter Fest, Orientation, Convocation, Commencement, CFAW, and summer camps amongst other planned and unplanned events throughout the year. Must be available to work scheduled and unscheduled hours as emergency needs arise. Wear appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and follow all department safety protocols. Communicate route updates, delays, and safety information to dispatchers and passengers as needed. Assist with basic departmental tasks in other units (e.g., Maintenance, Grounds, Custodial) during summer or downtime. Support the Transit Department with feedback on service delivery and potential improvements. Collaborate with other student workers and staff to ensure smooth daily operations. Stay informed about new technologies, policies, and processes in the university transit and facilities sectors. Perform other duties as assigned.
