In this role, you’ll be the first point of contact for everyone who enters our building—creating a warm, welcoming, and caring environment. Whether you're greeting guests with a smile or helping direct phone calls, your presence makes a big difference in ensuring the smooth flow of daily operations. Who We Are: The San Francisco-Marin Food Bank’s mission is to end hunger in San Francisco and Marin counties. We envision a community free of the root causes of hunger, where everyone has access to nutritious food of their choosing and is uplifted by a network of support. Together with more than 300 community partners, we work to address hunger head-on through a coordinated network of neighborhood food pantries, CalFresh enrollment, home-delivered groceries, and policy and advocacy efforts. We work with our community to provide food for people facing hunger today while working to end the hunger of tomorrow. This fiscal year, we are serving 36,000 households per week. Who You Are: To excel in this position, you will need to approach the work with the following habits and values: Reliable attendance is essential Excellent verbal communication and organizational skills Outstanding customer service skills with a friendly and positive attitude Ability to stay calm under pressure and adapt in an environment with frequent interruptions What You Would Be Accountable for: The Temporary Receptionist will be responsible for the following key pieces of work: Greet everyone with kindness: Cordially welcome staff, volunteers, and visitors to the Welcome Center with a smile and friendly tone; acknowledge departures warmly. Provide excellent customer service: Respond to questions, concerns, and suggestions in person and by phone with patience and professionalism. Maintain composure and warmth: Remain composed under pressure and maintain a warm demeanor when interacting with people from all backgrounds. Maintain the Welcome Center: Help keep the front area neat, organized, and secure. What You Would Be Doing Right Now: Answer and direct phone calls: Use a multi-line Cisco phone system to assist callers with inquiries, transferring them to the appropriate department when necessary. Assist with deliveries: Sign for packages, log them, and notify recipients. Accept personal food deliveries and notify staff. Support volunteers: Take photos of volunteer groups upon request to help commemorate their service. Handle donations: Accept food and financial donations appropriately. Guide donors to place food in barrels or direct them to the shop floor (between 8 AM–2 PM) for weighed donations and receipts. What Else You Should Know: All internal candidates must apply using their Food Bank work email within 10 business days of posting to be considered. Applications submitted after 10 days are still welcome but may not be reviewed or afforded an interview, depending on the status of the selection process.
