About The Position

The Ohio Sea Grant is seeking Undergraduate Trainees for two distinct roles: a Marine Debris intern and a Cuyahoga River AOC intern. Both positions are temporary and remote, focusing on environmental communications and public engagement. The Marine Debris intern will support the BOTtttle program and Plastic Free Cleveland, with responsibilities including program support, digital communications management, multimedia content creation, public outreach, awareness campaigns, and strategic planning for a Great Lakes Marine Debris Action Plan. The Cuyahoga River AOC intern will support the Advisory Committee, focusing on enhancing the AOC's digital presence, creating multimedia content, conducting public outreach, designing awareness signage, and assisting with a public engagement plan with an Environmental Justice focus. Successful candidates for the Marine Debris role should excel in environmental communications and public engagement.

Responsibilities

  • Assist BOTtttle program partners and Plastic Free Cleveland members with meetings and general tasks, including beach clean ups.
  • Manage and enhance Plastic Free Cleveland’s digital presence by updating website content, including the creation of graphics for outreach materials.
  • Produce engaging visual storytelling materials, such as social media posts and a digital content calendar.
  • Represent Ohio Sea Grant at community events, maintaining outreach materials and identifying new opportunities for public engagement.
  • Collaborate with BOTtttle program and Plastic Free Cleveland members to research and design public awareness tools, such as fact sheets, educational handouts, and short educational videos.
  • Assist in developing a draft Great Lakes Marine Debris Action Plan.
  • Assist the Advisory Committee and its subcommittees with meetings and general tasks.
  • Manage and enhance the AOC’s digital presence by updating website content and executing a consistent social media strategy, including the creation of graphics and a digital content calendar.
  • Produce engaging visual storytelling materials, such as a summer recap video and a summer quarterly e-newsletter.
  • Represent the AOC at community events, maintaining outreach materials and identifying new opportunities for public engagement.
  • Collaborate with the Media Working Subgroup to research and design public awareness signage, such as billboards or library exhibits.
  • Assist in developing a draft public engagement plan with a specific focus on Environmental Justice.
