About The Position

Responsible and accountable for performing multi-faceted clerical duties to assist the Technologist and Radiologist to aid in the diagnosis and continuum of care of patients.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • 2 years' experience in receptionist, customer service, or general office preferred
  • Basic knowledge of computer systems and strong keyboarding skills
  • Must have the ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing, to solve problems and make decisions.
  • Spend eight hours or more in front of computer, monitor or similar screen utilizing keyboard and/or mouse daily, performing clerical duties in the Radiology department and Mobile Mammography Unit.
  • Ability to stand and walk, occassionally bend, squat and twist, and occasionally lift up to 20 pounds utilizing proper body mechanics.
  • Must be able to handle critical and highly stressful situations with efficiency and composure.

Responsibilities

  • Answer telephones promptly and direct calls to appropriate staff.
  • Greet patients, ensure patient identification, and confirm patient diagnostic appointment(s).
  • Route patient to Radiology/PFS Registration sign-in.
  • Check patients in RIS system by confirming correct patient encounter for date of exam/service.
  • Prepare Radiology requisition to deliver to appropriate sub-department within Radiology.
  • Receive and route messages or documents, such as laboratory results, History and Physical to appropriate technologist, nurse, and Radiologist.
  • Relay request for technologist to other departments: Surgery, GI lab, Cardiopulmonary, and Nursing Units to appropriate person either by pager dispatch system or phone call.
  • Copy outside images into PACS system.
  • Copy images on CD to send to appropriate physician offices, other hospitals or patients for continuum of care after acquiring the required patient information as requested by HIM.
  • Transmit correspondence or medical records by mail, e-mail, or fax while adhering to HIPAA policy.
  • Perform various clerical or administrative functions, such as file room, reading room, and front desk duties; ordering and maintaining an inventory of supplies.
  • Assist patients to other departments by calling for volunteer.
  • Perform MMU clerical duties on unit; pre-registration and activation of patients.
  • Responsible for calling in Nuclear Medicine doses or cancellations after technologist leaves for the day, including holidays.
  • If staff has scheduling experience, able to assist staff with scheduling issues when Centralized Scheduling personnel is not available.
  • Represents BRMC and the Radiology department by providing excellent customer service to all individuals.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned
