About The Position

The Bridge offers supportive housing and behavioral health services to vulnerable New Yorkers facing behavioral health and substance use challenges. As a recognized leader in developing and operating supportive housing and community-based programs, The Bridge has 70 years of experience helping New Yorkers with mental illness, including those affected by homelessness, incarceration, and institutionalization. Scope of Position: This role is part of an innovative new model that will pilot the benefits of integrating Occupational Therapy within supportive housing, alongside other embedded services. The Occupational Therapist will provide direct care to supportive housing tenants—particularly older adults and individuals who are medically fragile—and will also provide professional consultation to residential staff. Responsibilities include offering recommendations and interventions related to mobility within the community and home environment, manual muscle testing and range of motion, and environmental safety. The OT should be confident in administering interventions within a behavioral health setting. This position will join a growing cohort of Occupational Therapists at The Bridge.

Requirements

  • Candidates must have a Master’s Degree in Occupational Therapy as well as current valid NYS licensure, or temporary licensures at the time of hire.
  • 1 or more years of experience working with older adults, individuals with chronic medical conditions, people precariously housed or unhoused, and/or related fields.
  • Ability to travel throughout New York City.
  • Computer literacy is required. Ability to use agency Electronic Health Records to document services and track data.

Nice To Haves

  • Bilingual in Spanish is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Establish strategies and best practices for utilizing OT techniques with residential clients, including conducting OT wellness groups and providing individual support.
  • Provide interventions as part of a multidisciplinary team, including conducting relevant assessments to screen for limitations; offering recommendations on energy conservation techniques, durable medical equipment, and strength-building exercises; making referrals to appropriate community-based services; providing psychoeducation; and conducting apartment assessments as needed to recommend modifications.
  • Provide professional consultation to staff to support services for special populations, including leading a monthly in-service training to increase consultations, reinforce expectations, and promote consistency within the team.
  • Demonstrate skills in documentation, treatment planning, and quality performance indicators.
  • Actively participate in multidisciplinary meetings.
