About The Position

Occupational Therapy assists in developing, improving or restoring independence to any person who has an injury, illness, disability or psychological dysfunction.

Requirements

  • Good interpersonal relationships
  • Good written and verbal communication skills
  • Proficient use of computer – ability to type
  • Occupational Therapy - One year experience preferred
  • Mercy Home Care - Experience required.
  • Education sufficient to receive licensure in the state of Iowa
  • Occupational Therapy Iowa License required
  • Current certification in Basic Cardiac Life Support, in accordance with the American Heart Association required.
  • Iowa Dependent Adult Abuse & Iowa Child Abuse Mandatory Reporter Training required. Employee must submit certification of completed training to Human Resources prior to hire or transfer date.
  • Mercy Home Care - Current and valid driver's license, own transportation and automobile insurance required

Responsibilities

  • Completes evaluations of assigned patients in accordance with the established standards of care and practice.
  • Plans and provides treatment to assigned patients as appropriate in accordance with established standards of care and practice.
  • Completes all documentations of services per department standards.
  • Attends all required safety training programs and can describe his or her responsibilities related to general safety, department/service safety, and specific job related hazards.
  • Follows the hospital exposure control plans/bloodborne and airborne pathogens.
  • Demonstrates respect and regard for the dignity of all patients, families, visitors, and fellow employees to ensure a professional, responsible, and courteous environment.
  • Promotes effective working relations and works effectively as part of a department/unit team intra- and interdepartmentally to facilitate the department’s /units ability to meet its goals and objectives.
  • Maintains updated license and submits evidence of status to supervisor/manager within two weeks of receipt of new updated license.
  • Communicates to COTA’s or technicians necessary information for optimal and safe patient care.
  • Supervisors COTA treatments and documentation.
  • Follows Mercy's safety guidelines, carries out job-specific safety duties and responsibilities, and promptly reports any unsafe conditions, situations, incidents and injuries.
  • Manages a case load of patients in a collaborative process that assesses, plans, implements, coordinates, monitors, and evaluates the options and services and equipment required to meet the patient's health and human service needs.
  • Scheduling patient visits per regulation.
  • Demonstrates ability to function independently.
  • Demonstrates tolerance of home environment and diverse lifestyle of patient/family.
