About The Position

The Occupational Therapist supports students in developing the visual and fine motor, sensory processing, and self-regulation skills needed for successful participation in school activities. The therapist works with students to build independence and engagement in daily school routines, including fine motor development, sensory regulation, and daily living skills. Services are delivered through direct intervention, consultation, and collaboration during the Extended School Year (ESY), per the student’s Individualized Education Program (IEP).

Requirements

  • Occupational Therapist licensure required

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working with high school-aged students, particularly those with diverse learning needs
  • Knowledge of sensory integration, fine motor development, and self-regulation strategies
  • Experience with evidence-based practices to support students with disabilities, including autism spectrum disorders
  • Experience with community-based instruction, life skills and transition planning preferred

Responsibilities

  • Provide direct and consultation services to students as indicated on caseload IEP
  • Support students with a range of OT services including but not limited to perceptual/sensory/motor/developmental delay or underlying impairments that limit/prevent a student from accessing the educational curriculum
  • Coordination of related service and service only student support
  • Consult with ESY teachers
  • Safety Care trained and/or willingness to be trained
  • Provide direct or consultative services; modify or adapt school environments, tools, or materials as needed in order to support a student in accessing the educational curriculum and environment as independently as possible
  • Support needs related to visual perception, motor proficiency, social skills, handwriting, activities of daily living, self-feeding, fine motor, sensory processing, psychosocial skills, eating, self-care and organization
  • Adapt as needed to changes in student and/or team response, available treatment locations, and educational activities
  • Ability to travel between school and community-based sites, as needed
  • Flexibility to support student programming across a variety of settings
  • Accompany classes and/or conduct site visits to community-based locations, including internships, field trips and volunteer placements, to support student programming
  • Current authorization to work in the United States by the first day of employment
